Hero ZIR preview; entry of touring scooter in India

The leading Indian two wheeler manufacturers, Hero MotoCorp Limited (HMCL) , unveiled the most premium flagship scooter- ZIR at the 12th Auto Expo. The scooter looks inspires by sporty European scooters, used for touring purpose. The 150cc scooter will appeal the audience, which wants a powerful scooter with features like a premium bike.

Hero ZIR gets a very stylish, aerodynamic front apron with integrated twin projector headlamps and turn indicators. The scooter looks a perfect urban ride with its fluidic design pattern, which also gets a big wing shield at the front. Its dual stage seat is quite comfortable for a long run and also gels with its unique styling. LED units have been used for the tail lamp and rear indicators to make it look upmarket. Apart from the huge underseat space for two full face helmets, the scooter has an extra boot case as an optional accessory, which can be attached to its rear side.

With a 157.1cc, 4-stroke, liquid-cooled, single cylinder engine, Hero ZIR gets a maximum power of 14.08bhp at 8,500rpm and 12.7Nm of peak torque at 7,000rpm. The powerful engine mated with automatic transmission, makes the scooter capable to achieve a top speed of over 110kmph. With an overall dimensions of 2,085mm x 745mm x 1,385mm (L x W x H) and 139kg weight, it appears bigger than other scooters available in the Indian market.

Running on 13 inch 110/90 R13 front and 130/70 R13 rear tubeless tyres, Hero ZIR gets excellent traction and grip on the road to deliver outstanding stability and control on every track and turn. 35mm telescopic forks at the front gives excellent damping on jerks, while rear gets 5-position adjustable dual shock absorbers at the rear to make ride comfortable. The front wheel sports a 225mm disc brake and the rear wheel gets a 220mm disc brake to provide better safety and control on speed.The electrical system has been supported with a 12 V – 6 Ah maintenance free battery, so you don't have to give much attention on it.

Overall, the Hero MotoCorp ZIR is a good package for the scooter enthusiasts, who are looking for a comfortable ride on long runs. It is expected to be priced around Rs. 80,000, which is close to perfect for an urban scooter like this.
