From top speed and range to warranty and availability, here’s all the dope on this unique little bike

Ahmedabad-based startup Greenvolt Mobility sets itself apart from the usual crop of two-wheeled EVs with the unique Mantis electric moped. We delve into the details so you have clarity on all the aspects of this e-moped before you decide on bringing it home.

    Simple yet cool:

The Mantis looks like an electric bicycle with an exposed frame, fatter tyres, and a comfortable seat. But unlike a cycle, the Mantis uses pedals to power the rear wheel. It even gets an LED headlight, a full-digital instrument console, and disc brakes on both ends.

    Powertrain and battery pack:

The electric bike is powered by a 250-watt electric motor that has a claimed top speed of 25kmph. It draws energy from a lightweight removable lithium-ion battery pack, which can be charged at home or your workplace. Thanks to lithium-ion, the Mantis takes just about 2.5 hours for a full charge so you can travel a distance of 50km. Greenvolt says a single charge would cost around Rs 5, depending on the electricity charges of the location.

    No registration and licence required:

Since the Matis caters to the low-speed electric segment, you don’t require a licence to ride it. It does not even have to be registered like ICE-powered vehicles.

    Warranty:

According to the brand, all the electrical components such as the battery, motor and controller are IP67 rated, meaning it's waterproof. While the motor and controller come with a lifetime warranty, its lithium-ion battery pack is covered for two years.

    Price and availability:

The Mantis is only sold in Ahmedabad for now, that is until Greenvolt decides to expand to other cities. At Rs 35,000, it’s one of the cheapest e-bikes you could get your hands on. Meanwhile, Greenvolt is working on high-powered electric bikes with higher top speed and range which will be launched in the foreseeable future.
