Matter Motor Works New Prototype E-bike Showcased At CES 2026

Gujarat-based EV manufacturer, Matter Motor Works, has announced a partnership with Niron Magnetics, to integrate rare-earth-free Iron Nitride magnet technology into its electric motorbike platforms. Niron Magnetics is a Minnesota-based company creating high-performance, permanent magnets from abundant iron and nitrogen, completely free of rare-earth elements. The first prototype using this technology was recently showcased at CES 2026 (Corporate Electronics Show 2026).

The collaboration aims to reduce the EV industry’s dependency on rare earth materials, which are expensive, harmful for the environment, and vulnerable to supply chain issues. In this partnership, Matter will evaluate the use of Niron Magnetic’s Iron Nitride magnets, along with Variable Flux Motor (VFM) designs which will be used in its future electric bikes. Variable flux motors help overcome the usual compromise between low-speed torque and high-speed efficiency seen in conventional motors. For electric motorcycles, this translates to quicker acceleration, better city rideability, efficient cruising, and improved thermal performance all without the use of rare earth elements or critical minerals.

The showcased prototype combines Matter’s liquid-cooled powertrain, in-house gearbox, and vehicle systems with Niron’s magnet technology. It is based on Matter’s HyperShift geared electric motorbike platform, as seen on the Matter Aera, and is designed to improve torque delivery, efficiency across different speeds, acceleration, and riding range. That said, since this is more of a powertrain technology showcase, no claims about the expected range have been made yet. 

Like many other EV manufacturers, Matter is also moving towards technologies that do not rely on rare earth metals. This shift will reduce dependency on critical materials and help streamline the brand’s future production and innovation strategies.
