Hero's Upcoming Xpulse 421 Spotted Testing In Ladakh

An all-new liquid-cooled engine, long travel suspension, spoke wheels, and much more

Quick Highlights:

  • The test mule was seen with an all-new 421cc liquid-cooled engine

  • Long travel suspension, 21-inch front wheel, 17-inch rear wheel

  • Is expected to debut at EICMA 2026

Hero MotoCorp’s much-awaited adventure motorcycle, the Xpulse 421, has been spotted testing once again, and this time in the harsh terrains of Ladakh. The test mule was seen parked near what appears to be one of the region’s high-altitude mountain passes, Khardungla. Suggesting that Hero is putting its upcoming ADV through rigorous cold-weather testing.

From what the latest spy shots reveal, this doesn’t look like an enlarged Xpulse 210. Instead, it appears to be a proper middleweight adventure motorcycle built to tackle everything from highways to rough trails.

Designed To Go Far Beyond The Tarmac

Although the motorcycle remains heavily camouflaged, several design details are already visible. Up front sits a high-mounted LED headlight housed within a rally-inspired fairing featuring sharp lines and muscular proportions.

The fuel tank and seat also seem to have been designed with a proper off-road centric bike in mind. The shape should allow riders to grip the motorcycle better using their knees and ankles while standing on the pegs, something adventure riders will certainly appreciate during demanding trails. Interestingly, while the front section looks quite substantial, the rear half appears to be slim and compact, staying true to the lightweight character that the Xpulse family is known for.

Some Serious Adventure Hardware

Beneath the bodywork, the Xpulse 421 is expected to use a steel trellis frame with a long-travel inverted fork without adjustability, and a rear linked monoshock. While exact details remain under wraps, Hero could offer adjustable suspension on the Pro version later, which will potentially include compression and rebound adjustment up front, along with preload adjustment for the rear shock.

The motorcycle also appears to run a proper adventure setup with a 21-inch front wheel and a 17-inch rear wheel wrapped in dual-purpose tyres. Whether Hero opts for tube-type tyres or follows the route taken by rivals with tubeless spoke wheels remains to be seen. The bike can also be seen with a large petal disc at the front, along with a more superior radially-mounted, four piston caliper.

A New Engine For Bigger Adventures

Perhaps the biggest highlight is the all-new liquid-cooled, single-cylinder engine seen on the test mule. Official power figures remain undisclosed for now, but expectations are that it will slot between the output of the Royal Enfield Himalayan and the KTM 390 Adventure. The engine is likely to be paired with a six-speed gearbox, and spy images hint at the presence of a quickshifter, a feature that would significantly enhance its touring credentials. The bike also gets an upswept exhaust which should be great for off-road duties.

Features List Could Be Packed

The Xpulse 421 can be seen with a big TFT console, and is expected to feature smartphone connectivity for functions like navigation and SMS/call alerts. Hero could also equip its flagship ADV with a comprehensive electronics package including multiple ride modes, switchable traction control, cruise control, and switchable ABS — features that are rapidly becoming standard in this segment. Along with this, the switch gears look similar to something we have seen on other Hero bikes.

EICMA Debut On The Cards?

With testing now gaining pace, the Hero Xpulse 421 could make its global debut at EICMA 2026 in Milan this November.

If that happens, it could easily become one of the biggest motorcycle unveilings of the year. Given the growing popularity of adventure motorcycles in India, Hero’s upcoming flagship ADV might just have all the ingredients to shake up the segment. As of now it is expected to be priced at around Rs 2.85 to Rs 3 lakh (ex-showroom).
