TVS XL Heavy Duty Expert Review

April 1, 2016: TVS had launched a new four-stroke TVS XL 100 at Rs 28,843 (ex-showroom, Maharashtra) on March 29th, 2016. The TVS XL Heavy Duty was a phenomenal success in the rural regions for its no-nonsense and single-minded approach as a two-wheeled load lugger. It still sells well in rural South India. It gets heavy-duty rear shock absorbers, wide front-loading platform and a removable rear seat to make space for more luggage. The moped is quite basic but does get interesting colours. The bike cannot be sold in cities owing to emission regulations but is intended for rural markets. The TVS XL Heavy duty is a no frills moped that is best suited for the rural grind and will work well for small businesses that need an economical two-wheeler to transport heavy loads.

The TVS XL Heavy Duty is a moped that TVS Motors sells in rural areas. It sells quite well due to its very affordable asking price, low running costs, reliability and ruggedness. The frame can withstand heavy loads and hard knocks and is built to last. Power comes courtesy a 69.9cc two-stroke air-cooled motor that delivers 3.5PS and 5Nm of torque. The gearbox is a basic single-speed unit mated to a centrifugal clutch. While the XL Heavy Duty weighs 75 kilos, it is rated for a payload of 130 kilos. Fuel efficiency is rated at 67kmpl  with a 4-litre tank. The TVS XL Heavy Duty retails at Rs 26,867 and makes sense if you need a no-nonsense two-wheeler to lug stuff around on a daily basis and expect extremely low running costs out of it.

Obviously, mopeds like this don’t come with an amazing or charming body design. However, the company has done its best to make it look even more stunning and appealing as it can. This time TVS Motors has offered with a good-looking graphics and a wide range of colors, which makes it even more prudent. The front profile comes with a rounded headlamp and clear lens turn indicators. The vehicle has a fuel capacity of 4 litres with a reserve capacity of 1 litre that is good enough to fulfil the daily needs. The company also provide a small glove box underneath the rider’s seat. Furthermore, the pillion seat integrated as a separate unit, which can be set-apart for other uses or load carrying purposes. Apart from this, it has also been furnished with a long-lasting rectangular tail lamp at the rear end that makes it look even more pretty and attractive. The sleek silencer gets a totally black treatment that adds some premiumness.

The manufacturer also offers it with a wheelbase of 1222 mm, which provides a smooth handling even in heavy traffic. Kerb weight of TVS XL Heavy Duty is 75 kg, which makes it simple to ride, handy and lightweight. The instrument cluster consist of an analogue speedometer, odometer and fuel gauge.

The manufacturing company has configured it with a 69.9cc, single-cylinder, two-stroke engine mated to an automatic transmission. It pumps out a net power of 3.5bhp at 5,000rpm with a maximum torque of 5 Nm at 3,750rpm. It also comes with air-cooled engine that uses Fly Wheel Magnese 12V x 50W Electronic Ignition and has a bore x stroke ratio of 46mm x 42mm. With this arrangement, the moped employs a worthwhile performance and returns a well enough mileage.

The vehicle moves on trustworthy and grippy tyres that are mounted over 2.5” X 16” spoke wheels and is configured with 80mm and 110mm drum brakes at the front and rear end respectively. Apart from this, the company has furnished it with Hydraulic Spring Arm Shock Absorber at the rear and telescopic spring type shock absorbers at the front end, which works well on all surfaces and provides a smooth, handy and comfortable ride.

TVS XL Heavy Duty equipped with a powerful 12V-35/35W headlight that promises proper and clean visibility in the dark. Apart from this, it comes with twin rear view mirrors, which provides the information about the traffic conditions to rider that reduced the chances of accident. Moreover, it has four turn indicators which helps rider to take a turn on the road. All the above safety features makes it a convenient and safe two-wheeler.
