Yamaha and Hero MotoCorp Register Growth, TVS Decline in July

The Indian Automotive industry is witnessing a slowdown, due to which manufacturers are facing difficulties in achieving their targeted sales. Things are not that bad with two-wheeler market, though the sales has dipped in current fiscal. Here, we have sales reports of three two-wheeler manufacturers for month July including Yamaha, Hero and TVS. While, TVS reported a decline of 4.7 percent, Hero reported a marginal growth, and Japanese two-wheeler manufacturer Yamaha Motor India Sales (YMIS) reported 57 per cent increase for July, 2013.

Yamaha has sold a total 58,151 units in July 2013 as against 36,993 units in the corresponding month last year. Yamaha registered a rise of 35 per cent in its domestic sales, which is at 37,494 units in July, 2013 compared to 27,858 units in July,2012. In the export markets, YMIS sold 20,657 units in July, 2013 as against to 9,135 units in the same month last year, achieving a growth of 126 per cent.

On the other hand, Hero MotoCorp reported a marginal rise of 0.06 per cent in total sales at 4,87,545 units for July, 2013, while it had sold 4,84,217 units in the corresponding month last year. Hero MotoCorp Senior Vice President (Marketing and Sales) Anil Dua said: "Our growth in July has come in the wake of good demand for our motorcycle brands such as Glamour and Ignitor and our scooter models Pleasure and Maestro. We are hopeful of sustaining this positive momentum in the coming months as we gear up for the festive season which would see a slew of launches from us." Hero recently started exports to the international markets and company will commence its operations in Peru, Latin America in August.

While, the above mentioned brands registered growth in their sales, the Chennai-based TVS Motor reported 4.7 per cent decline in total sales in July at 1,53,676 units as against 1,61,255 units in the same month last year. Here we want to highlight that TVS' total two-wheeler sales witnessed a decline of 7.1 per cent at 1,46,671 units in the month against 1,57,954 units in the year ago period. The domestic sales fell by 10.17 per cent at 1,26,531 units against 1,40,862 units in July 2012. However, TVS registered a 8.49 per cent growth in motorcycles sales at 57,886 units in July from 53,355 units in the same month last year, but scooters registered sales declined by 9.76 per cent to 36,900 units as against 40,895 units in the same month last year.
