River Indie Gets Something To Ensure Peace Of Mind For 8 Years

River has announced an extended warranty scheme on its sole electric scooter, the River Indie. The new warranty covers the battery and the electric motor of the scooter and will be available on all purchases, applicable from October 1, 2025. 

The new warranty scheme is priced at Rs 8,399 plus GST, which covers the battery and motor of the e-scooter for 8 years/80,000 km in total(whichever comes earliest). The first 3 years/30,000km is standard, while the rest of the 5 years is part of the extended warranty scheme. The warranty covers the motor replacement (if it becomes non-functional even after repairs) and the battery replacement if its health drops below 70% from the total capacity when new. Earlier, the extended warranty was only for 2 more years over and above the standard 3-year warranty (5 years in total).

Customers who have purchased a River Indie after April 01, 2025 can also opt for this scheme but the price remains the same at Rs 8,399 + GST. Interestingly, for customers who have already purchased the 5-year warranty package, River is offering this extended warranty at Rs 3,399 plus GST as an upgrade. The catch here is that these existing customers only have a one-month window to purchase this package.

Currently, the River Indie is sold in 32 stores based in major cities like Bengaluru, Mysuru, Chennai, Hyderabad, Kochi, Visakhapatnam, Pune, Vijayawada, and Trivandrum. River also plans to open its showrooms in most major cities in India by the end of this financial year (by March 2026). 

With the extended warranty programme, River intends to make long-term ownership worry-free as the biggest concern for potential EV buyers is the battery life in the long run. Afterall, the battery is the costliest part of an EV, so buyers often have concerns regarding how reliable they are over several years. This is especially considering the fact that batteries cannot be repaired and will have to be replaced as a whole, which will be an expensive affair. 

That said, the battery pack costs are coming down, and in the near future, we might see better batteries with higher capacities at affordable prices.
