Hero Develops Three New Engines- A 100cc, 110cc and a 250cc

Hero MotoCorp, the world's no.1 two-wheeler manufacturer, recently dismissed Honda's claim to be no.1 two-wheeler brand in India by saying that no one can take their leadership, and to prove this right the manufacturer today revealed that it has successfully developed three new engines. It has been two year since the separation from erstwhile partner Honda, and till now Hero is using Honda's technology in its bikes. Now, the manufacturer announced that it has fired three new engines including a 100cc, 110cc and a 250cc engine. These engines will gradually be used in both Hero's new and existing bikes including their best sellers, the Splendor and Passion.

Hero MotoCorp has got everything in its kitty, be it brand name, wide sales network or an excellent fleet of the vehicle, but the biggest problem was that there is no technical back-up left for the brand, after Honda made an exit from the collaboration. But Hero is now in collaboration with Engines Engineering, AVL Engineering and Erik Buell Racing(EBR), which ensures that Hero will continue to produce technically advance products in future too. "We have fired three new engines, and we have done this ourselves," Pawan Munjal, MD & CEO of Hero MotoCorp, told TOI. Apart from the 100cc engine, the company has developed a 110cc and a 250cc engine. "Each of these engines perform much better than our existing engines, and they are very fuel-efficient, the efficiency being higher than any bike currently running on Indian roads," he also added.

Mr. Munjal admitted that it was a challenge for Hero to get a backup for Honda's technology by saying, "There surely had been an impact. They did bring in equity into the JV in terms of technological strength. We are now building up that equity ourselves." When asked about a time limit that when these engines will be strapped on the bikes, Mr. Munjal Said, “The 110cc engine will be used on our current range, and will be ready for commercial launch towards the festive season of next year. On the other hand, the 100cc engine is a vertical engine currently being developed specifically for the Nigerian market.”
