Crayon Motors And Bounce Infinity Partner To Set Up Battery Swapping Network

Electric two-wheeler startup Crayon Motors and EV maker Bounce Infinity have teamed up to set up an interoperated battery swapping network. This is Bounce Infinity’s second partnership this month as the company previously installed battery swapping stations at Bharat Petroleum pumps as well.

Through the new initiative, the customers can now buy a Crayon electric two or three-wheeler without a battery. Customers can make use of Bounce Infinity’s “Battery-as-a-Service”.

While Bounce Infinity’s partnership with Bharat Petroleum was aimed at fuel stations, this one is aimed towards public places like residential complexes, restaurants, cafes, co-living spaces, corporate offices, kirana stores, etc apart from Crayon Motors’ dealerships. Having such an arrangement eases the financial load of establishing charging infrastructure on one company, and it also allows e-scooters owners from both manufacturers to make use of the infrastructure, thus ensuring the ownership experience is even more versatile than before.

Previously, companies like Hero collaborated with Bharat Petroleum and Honda with Hindustan Petroleum to set up EV charging infrastructure. On the other hand, EV makers like Ola Electric and are pushing towards setting up charging stations of their own.

This partnership coincides with the Indian government’s battery swapping policies that includes formulating interoperability standards. Battery swapping is a great solution to mitigate range anxiety and also reduce the down time while the EV is charging. However, it requires heavy investment as manufacturers need to ensure the system has more battery packs than the number of scooters produced.
