The 110cc motorcycle has a claimed mileage of 69.3kmpl and comes with a 5-year warranty

TVS Motor Company has launched its latest commuter, the Radeon, in the country at Rs 48,400 (ex-showroom Delhi). The Hosur-based manufacturer intends to target the rural market primarily with its latest offering. Design-wise, the motorcycle bears an uncanny resemblance to the Hero Splendor Plus. However, the Radeon looks more modern thanks to its plush seat, tank pads and curved headlamp with LED DRLs. The bodywork has an impact-resistant design to withstand heavy usage.

Built on a steel tubular chassis, the motorcycle rides on telescopic front forks and 5-step adjustable twin hydraulic shock absorbers. Further enhancing the comfort is a cushioned single-piece seat which TVS says is the longest and widest in the segment. The pillion grab rail ends with an integrated carrier to lug small items.

The Radeon’s 109.7cc Dura-Life air-cooled single-cylinder motor is derived from the Star City Plus, but is tweaked for flatter torque curve, with better bottom end torque than the Star. Coupled to a 4-speed transmission, the engine generates 8.4PS at 7000rpm and 8.7Nm at 5000rpm. TVS claims a mileage figure of 69.3kmpl, and the fuel tank can hold 10 litres of juice.

The Radeon rolls on 18-inch alloy wheels wrapped with rugged Duragrip tyres, and comes to a halt using drum brakes on both ends. These are enhanced by Synchronised Braking Technology which results in reduced stopping distance, better braking response and improved stability.

Instrument cluster on the Radeon consists of a twin-pod analogue unit with speedometer, fuel gauge, Eco and Power indicators and tell-tale lights. A tachometer is absent. TVS offers an USB port as an option behind the headlight cowl, but a mobile phone holder isn’t available. The commuter gets a five-year warranty as standard and comes in four colours: White, Beige, Purple and Black. Sales will commence from September onwards. Once launched, the Radeon will rival the Honda CD 110 Dream DX, Bajaj Discover 110 and the Hero Splendor iSmart 110.
