We’ve come across several electric two-wheelers in the recent past, including some international models. However, none of them compare to the Zapp i300, a new electric scooter meant to revolutionize the EV space. How, you ask? Well, British start-up Zapp built the i300 using materials that can be completely recycled (for the most part). It features a unique Z-shaped external aluminum frame and weighs...wait for it… a mere 92kg kerb.
That’s surprisingly light for an e-scooter that packs not one but two removable 1.4kWh lithium-ion batteries, each weighing 6kgs. The weight advantage is courtesy of the carbon fibre composite body. The packaging is equally impressive. Both these batteries are positioned on the floorboard, which reduces the centre of gravity, improving handling in the process.
The centre-mounted electric motor offers 18kW of power and 85Nm of instant torque, enough to propel the scooter from 0 to 50kmph in a claimed 2.35 seconds and 0-70kmph in just 4.1 seconds. That’s quicker than the Ather 450X! Its top speed is electronically capped at 96kmph, limiting the range to about 60km in ECO. While the range is on the lower side, it should be enough for short-distance commutes.

There’s some premium hardware too. The scooter features an aluminum swingarm linked to a monoshock and a belt drive. You get USD fork disc brakes at both ends, chunky tyres (120/140), and wheelie control, just in case.
The i300 comes with a full-digital dash that has multiple ride modes and optional dashcam and GPS tracking. You can even opt for a modular carbon fibre under-seat storage that can accommodate a half-faced helmet along with some knick-knacks.
But all this doesn’t come cheap. Zapp wants you to fork out 6,300 Euros (about Rs 5.49 lakh) for the i300. And that’s just the base price. It gets even worse when you dial in the different paint schemes, graphics, seating options, and accessories. So it’s safe to say that the i300 will mostly target elite customers.
