Suzuki has announced the price of its all-new quarter-litre offering, the GSX250R, for the European market. Priced at £4,299 (around 3.52 lakhs in Indian money) the bike is quite compelling for the market as it is priced way below its chief rivals such as the Yamaha R3 and Kawasaki Ninja 300. Suzuki’s offering is £800 (approximately Rs 66,000) cheaper than the R3 and £600 (close to Rs 50,000) less than the Ninja 300 in Europe.

But, when we compare the European price of the GSX250R with the Indian price of its above-mentioned rivals, we find that the bike is actually more expensive than the R3 and a whisker less than the Ninja 300. The R3 is available at around Rs 3.46 lakh, while the latter is priced at Rs 3.80 lakh (both prices ex-showroom, Mumbai). This is why we reckon that the GSX250R will be priced in the ballpark of Rs 3.50 lakh, especially since there’s a probability that it could be brought in via the CKD (Completely Knocked Down unit) route if launched in India. When, you ask? Well, not before the last third of 2017.

Speaking of the bike, it heavily draws its design inspiration from its elder sibling, the GSX-R1000. And, thanks to the front full fairing, the bike should appeal to Indian buyers. Moreover, the sharply styled tank, the front bulk and the lean tail instantly grab one's attention. Other features include a front-biased upright posture, just like the R3, thanks to raised clip-on handlebars. Buyers will also benefit from a digital instrument cluster, split seats and a tall visor.

Power will be delivered from a 248cc liquid-cooled parallel-twin motor developing 25PS of power and 23.4Nm of torque, delivered to the road via a 6-speed gearbox. Suspension duties will be taken care of by 37mm telescopic KYB forks up front and KYB adjustable mono shock unit at the back. To stop the bike efficiently, Suzuki has fitted a 290mm front disc and a 240mm unit on the rear wheel. The bike will be offered with ABS as standard in the European market, however, its presence is unclear on the Indian-spec version.

Do watch out for more updates on the GSX250R!
