The electric motorcycle comes with a claimed range of up to 300km!

  • The Emote Electric Surge’s electric motor is paired to a 4-speed semi-automatic transmission.
  • The claimed top speed of the motorcycle stands at 120kmph.
  • Boasts a charging time of just 30 minutes thanks to the ‘Express Charging’ feature.

Emote Electric, a Coimbatore-based startup, has showcased its geared electric motorcycle, the Surge, at Auto Expo 2020. The brand had unveiled the electric bike back in 2018 and even after two years, it looks more or less unchanged, at least externally. As per the startup, the e-bike is scheduled to be launched in September this year.

Behind the facade of the boxy bodywork, it features a sophisticated trellis frame. The chassis houses a 72V, 40Ah lithium-ion battery pack, which ensures a claimed range of 100km on a single charge. Emote Electric says it will offer an accessory pair of batteries, which will help extend the range up to 300km. However, each battery pack weighs 26kg, and loading up three batteries will massively increase the weight of the motorcycle, which will be detrimental to the bike’s dynamics.

The battery pack can be charged completely in about four hours using a conventional charging system. But the bike is also capable of fast charging in just 30 minutes. The bike is powered by an electric motor, which generates 28Nm at 2800rpm. The motor is paired to a wide-ratio 4-speed semi-automatic transmission, which ensures a claimed top speed of 120kmph. The company claims it can accelerate from 0-60kmph in under four seconds. It also gets adaptive regenerative braking.

The trellis frame is suspended on a traditional front fork and a linked horizontal monoshock at the rear. Brakes are 300mm front disc and a 230mm unit at the rear, both with ByBre calipers. Other notable features on offer are an all-LED lighting system, 4G connectivity, keyless operation, and remote disable function.

Judging by the specs and features, the Surge could be priced at a premium over its only competitor in the electric bike segment, the Revolt RV 400.
