Mahindra Gusto Expert Review

February 25, 2016: Mahindra has been pushing hard to improve its presence in the Indian two-wheeler market. In a bid to do so, the company has updated its highest selling scooter, Gusto as and when required. Less than a month after introducing two-tone paint schemes with its latest scooter, Gusto 125, Mahindra Two-wheelers has launched a special edition version of its smaller sibling, Gusto 110, and priced it at Rs. 49,350 (ex-showroom, Delhi). This special edition model is only available in VX trim and gets Ice Cool Red and Silvern Magenta colour options, while the scooter remains mechanically unchanged.

Mahindra Gusto looks special with its extraordinary and creative design that couples with strong technical specifications. The elegant front apron looks appealing with plastic grills, smart Mahindra logo on a belt and exciting side indicators. The headlight integrated on the handlebars is nicely crafted and is integrated with bright headlamp with LED lights. The instrument console on the handlebars is an analog one that displays speedometer, odometer and fuel gauge. Below the console is a pocket-like storage facility which is fast and easy to use.

Beneath it is a genuine leg space for riders of all height that leads to the comfortable and long seat with a grab rail to hold on tight. Furthermore, there is an under seat storage capacity of 17 liter, which is suffice to carry a full size helmet. The scooter stands strong in every condition because of its tubular underbone chassis and marks a kerb weight of around 120kg. The overall dimensions of the machine are 1825mm x 697mm x 1188mm (l x w x h). The rear of the machine looks enticing with stylish tail lamp running between the side indicators. The side profile looks ordinary with classic paint and logo of Mahindra.

All black silencer of Mahindra Gusto, telescopic front forks and rear spring loaded hydraulic dampers compliments and adds more points to its designing. The large 12-inch alloy wheels with 90/90 tubeless tyres improves performance and makes the scooter look brilliant. The manufacturer has designed a remote flip key that shows how a creative and advance this two-wheeler is as compared to its rivals.

Mahindra Gusto, being a distant relative of Centuro, incorporates a mighty 109.6 cc, 4-stroke, Air-cooled, M-TEC Engine that runs with CVT. The motor dishes out a supreme power of 8bhp at 7,500rpm with 9Nm of peak torque at 5,500rpm. With a competent power output, the machine claims an appreciable mileage return of 63.2kmpl, which is surprising. The awesome mileage is multiplied by 6 liter of fuel tank capacity to calculate the actual performance of the scooter. It has one of the finest motors developed for 110cc segment of scooters in India. It has a quick throttle response and the power delivery is quite smooth. The scooterette can be started easy front kick or an electric starter.

Mahindra Gusto is bolted on a durable tubular underbone chassis that is further coupled with 90/90-12-inch tubeless tyres that return a healthy grip and the rider can perform sharp turns confidently. The braking system of the scoot is pretty conventional as it is equipped to 130mm drum brakes at both the ends. The sound suspension system keeps the ride stable and does not let the control go out of the rider’s hands. The friendly adjustable seat height feature enables riders of different height make the scooter comfortable according to their needs. The ground clearance of the machine is also tall enough to surpass speed breakers of any height easily.

Mahindra Gusto is the most advanced scooter in its category which flaunts many futuristic features that are never seen before in an 110cc scooter. The headlight with bright headlamp and LED lights gives a clear vision to the rider at night. The adjustable seat height facility enables the scooter to be friendly and easy to master, which also creates a better control and handling besides keeping the rider safe and comfortable during a ride. The telescopic front forks with air springs hurdles every pothole or bump efficiently and contributes better stability to the rider. The large wheels with tubeless tyres eliminate the situation of hault because of puncture.

For the riders safety and convenience, the scooter equipped with find-me lamps that helps the rider to find it when parked in a dark or crowded parking lot. Guide lamp feature of the scooter helps the rider reach its destination in dark as it keeps spreading its light for a few seconds after the illumination is off. Moreover, the flip key has a small light that illuminates the key hole in dark for quick and easy plug-in. The rear end gets a large reflector that can help the upcoming scooter to bump in when it is parked in the dark.
