Best Motorcycle Saddlebags in India

If you are serious about long distance bike touring, saddlebags should be on top of your buying priorities. Saddlebags make it easy to carry your luggage; they are easy to mount and unmount from your bike, and some of them can add to your bike’s looks. While some may argue bungee-tied duffle bags can do the job for less money, let me assure you, these aren’t the best solution if you tour a lot – they are messy to mount and unmount, they move around when mounted, and they eat up pillion space. Good saddlebags will level up your touring game, and make you look good on the road. 

Before we move on, remember that most saddlebags require saddlestays installed on your bike. To ease your decision making, saddlebags have been divided in five price categories:

Saddlebags Under Rs 4,000

These saddlebags are the best if you are just starting out and want to get a feel, without spending a lot of money. These saddlebags will do the job, and can last long if you use them well. However, it can be easy to outgrow these bags if you find yourself touring frequently. 

Viaterra Condor Solo: Rs 3,899

These have 42 litres of storage (combined) and are waterproof. They also come with additional rain covers for extra protection. Viaterra is a well-known brand, and having used a fair variety of their motorcycling accessories and gear, I think these saddlebags will be a good starting point, considering the price.

BBG Sports Saddle Bag: Rs 4,000

These offer a combined 50-litre storage capacity, however, these are only water-resistent (not waterproof) by nature. You will need to use the included rain cover to make them waterproof. If you need the most storage, these can be a good option.

Saddlebags Under Rs 5,000

This should be the most value-for-money budget segment for most occasional tourers. You can get storage up to 60 litres, which can carry equipment and/or clothes worth almost a week and a half (if you pack smart). 

Viaterra Leh Mini: Rs 4,699

These have 52 litres of storage and Viaterra claims these bags are 100 percent waterproof, and will fit bikes with straight exhausts as well as upswept exhausts. These also come with external rain covers for extra weather protection. Plus, these have the universal Molle straps, which means that any luggage piece with a Molle system can be connected to this and will help you add more storage space. 

Rynox Optimus: Rs 4,950

These offer 60 litres of storage (combined), a lot of external pockets, and built-in waterproof liner with a roll-top mechanism. However, the downside is that they won’t fit on bikes with an upswept exhaust (example: Royal Enfield Himalayan) – though fret not, Rynox has options on their site for the same as well.

Solace Sublime GT: Rs 4,999

At 62 litres, these offer the most storage in this price segment. These are also waterproof, and have ample external pockets to carry small items like snacks, beverages, and more. However, these are also only meant for bikes with straight exhausts (example: Honda CB350).

Saddlebags Under Rs 7,000

You get some really interesting saddlebags in this price range. That said, these saddlebags trade-off storage capacity with ease-of-use. 

Viaterra Quick-release QR-15: Rs 5,999

These saddlebags are meant to be used with specifically-designed saddlestays from Viaterra. That said, the brand makes these stays only for the Royal Enfield Himalayan 411 and the older KTM Adventure bikes, which is very limiting. The combination allows these bags to be mounted without the use of straps. whichThat makes it super easy to put them on and take off the bike. This ease comes at the cost of storage – just 30 litres (combined). These are not waterproof, and need external rain covers (included) to keep your stuff dry. 

Solace Rigid Trolly 2.0: Rs 6,499

These offer the most storage in this segment at 64 litres, which can be expanded to 70 litres. However, their highlight is the trolley-system – with an extendable pull handle and wheels. This means you won’t have to carry heavy saddlebags on your shoulders after a long ride. That said, these can only be used on bikes with straight exhausts.

RahGear Unrack Getaway: Rs 6,999

These are quite innovative saddlebags that don’t require any kind of saddle stays. These are more oriented towards ADV and off-road bikes, and have only 30 litres of storage. These are waterproof for additional ease of use. RahGear states these bags can be individually used as backpacks, and are easy to mount and unmount from the bike. 

Saddlebags Under Rs 10,000

This is where things get a bit serious, and expensive. These saddlebags are meant for those who know exactly what they want from their saddlebags. 

Rynox Expedition: Rs 7,450

Flagship saddlebags from Rynox, these will fulfil most of your expectations from touring luggage. 64-litre storage, waterproof, heavy-duty construction (claimed), and can be mounted on bikes with all kinds of exhausts. 

Viaterra Downtown: Rs 7,999

These are by far some of the best looking saddlebags – ones I would have bought if I didn’t have a pair of saddlebags already. These have a quick-release mechanism as well, but offer only 38 litres of storage. With a shoulder strap, these can be easily carried. These also require specifically-made saddle stays from Viaterra, which can limit who can use these. 

RahGear Unrack Tour: Rs 9,999

These are like the bigger versions of the Unrack Getaway mentioned earlier, and have a third, top-mounted bag. Combined, these offer 55 litres of storage, but since it's divided in to 3 bags, they don’t look as bulky as two-piece bags, and nor do they stick out as much. 

Saddlebags Above Rs 10,000

This is the super luxury segment of saddlebags. For those who want the best, and don’t mind paying a pretty penny for it. 

Givi EA127: Rs 14,999

Givi is one of the biggest names in the premium motorcycling luggage industry. Their equipment has a good reputation amongst enthusiasts because of the quality of products. These offer 40 litres of storage, which can be expanded to 60 litres. These come with different kinds of straps that you can use depending on the load these bags will be carrying. 

Nelson Rigg Hurricane Dry: Rs 22,399

A combined storage of 55 litres, waterproof, and a lifetime warranty! These can be used with either regular saddlestays, or specific ones which enable quick-release functionality. They have a lot of external pockets as well.

Kriega OS-32 Soft Pannier: Rs 30,500 (for 1 bag)

At Rs 61,000 for a pair, these are definitely some of the most expensive saddlebags. However, Kriega is known for its fantastic build quality and ease-of-use. 64 litres of storage, quick-release straps, mounting points for other Kriega OS range bags, and ofcourse, waterproof closure with a roll top – these bags are for those who want nothing but the best.
