Deliveries of the more expensive Premium variant will commence from February

  • The Bajaj Chetak Urbane variant is priced at Rs 1 lakh (ex-showroom).
  • Bookings for the scooter are open.
  • It is currently available in Pune and Bengaluru.
  • The Urbane variant gets drum brake on both ends.

While Bajaj has finally launched the Chetak electric scooter and even commenced bookings for both the Urbane and Premium variants, the deliveries of the former will commence only in May this year. On the other hand, the deliveries of the Chetak Premium will begin from February, as promised. The electric scooter is currently available at 13 dealerships in Bengaluru and four dealerships in Pune. Interestingly, all of them are KTM dealerships where one can even take test rides.

The reason why the Premium variant is slated to be delivered first could be more to do with streamlining production than anything else. Another reason could be because the Premium variant is the flagship model and Bajaj may want to start things off with this rather than a dialled-down version. Consequently, this move will also help the brand take advantage of the buffer time to enter smaller cities where there could be more demand for the more affordable model, the Urbane.

For reference, the Urbane variant costs Rs 1 lakh whereas the Premium model will set you back by Rs 1.15 lakh (ex-showroom, including the FAME II subsidy). Bajaj offers a 3-year/50,000km warranty for both the scooter as well as the battery pack. The life of the battery pack is pegged at 70,000km.

The scooter offers a claimed range of 95km on Eco mode and 85km on Sport mode. That said, the top speed in both modes is restricted to 60kmph. Notable features include an all-LED lighting system, all-metal bodywork, LCD instrument cluster, and keyless operation.
