Earlier this year, Bajaj Auto introduced the cheapest electric scooter in its line-up the Chetak 2901. The launch of this new scooter made the Chetak electric scooter more accessible, attracting more customers. The Bajaj Chetak will reportedly soon get new battery cells that will deliver a longer range compared to the current ones.
A report suggests that the range of the Bajaj Chetak will improve significantly, thanks to new battery cells sourced from a different supplier. Recently, the Chetak 3201 Special Edition was launched, which will be available only until the end of August 2024. Interestingly, despite its lower price point compared to the Premium variant, it delivers a superior claimed range of 136km, 10km more than the Premium’s 126km. While it is powered by the same 3.2kWh battery pack. The report also revealed that the 3201 Special Edition houses a newer battery which boosts its range figures regardless of having the same capacity battery pack as the Premium variant.
The report suggests that the names of the Chetak electric line-up will be updated with the introduction of the new battery pack. The 2901 variant, launched earlier this year with a 2.9kWh battery, was the first to adopt this naming scheme. As such, the Premium and Urbane variants might be renamed as 3201 and 3202, respectively, when they receive the new battery packs.
The Bajaj Chetak continues to be one of the top-selling electric scooters in India’s two-wheeler market. The accessible pricing and addition of the new battery technology enabling longer-range will make the Bajaj Chetak line-up more attractive.
