    Motorcycle Riding Tips For Women

If you’re a female rider who’s just getting into the world of motorcycling, welcome to the madness! It’s a fun world, we hope you have a lot of fun too and stick around for as long as you can. To ensure you don’t feel lost, we have come up with 5 tips for every female rider to become better at riding:

Ensure your hair doesn't come in the way

Your hair might feel quite messy when you take your helmet off after a long ride and that’s understandable. But it is not recommended at all to ride bikes with your long hair open or even loose. With it flying around constantly, it can not only end up quite messy too but also become a distraction for you. Female riders all around the globe usually prefer just tying their hair, for it not only reduces the messy look at the end of the ride, but it also doesn’t flap all over the place even if you ride quickly. All in all, it has proven to be a good solution for female riders.

Get a bike you feel comfortable on

The urge to get the best bike out there is real, we get it. Within your budget, you want a bike that has the most performance, feels exciting to ride and most importantly, one that feels like a big bike. But when you’re just getting into motorcycling, you should get a bike that makes you feel comfortable. That includes a bike with a seat height that’s manageable for you, approachable weight, and dimensions that don’t intimidate you even if you’re riding through tight traffic.

Having fun while you ride is of utmost importance, that’s the way you’ll enjoy motorcycling for years to come. If you’re going to be constantly worried about the bike’s height, weight or length while riding it, you might be too stressed when on it to actually have fun. Hence the need for a smaller, more approachable bike to start with.

    Avoid loose clothes

Loose clothing can be extremely dangerous and every rider out there should take this very seriously. Given how tightly we stack up in traffic, anything that’s dangling can potentially get caught in something. This can have dangerous results as you ride away from it. That said, we always advise riding in full gear.

    Start with riding in groups

If you want to tour, it’s always nicer to start riding in groups – especially with people you know. This will give you a safe space and a backup should things go wrong. The ‘wrong’ in question could be a minor puncture or a much more serious unexpected breakdown. In any case, having a bunch of trusted people around you is always a good idea.

Practice more in a controlled environment

Practice makes one perfect and hence you should practice as much as you can. Not on public roads, of course. They’re no place to practice. Where then? Riding inside the society you live in can be a nice idea. They’re usually reasonably empty in the first half of the day and you can practice things like clutch control and slow speed u-turns at slow speeds without harming anyone in case you have a little tumble too.  If not that, we all have those big cricket grounds near our houses where many people turn up on bikes and cars to practice. They’re usually big and empty grounds with nothing to hit so the chances of things going seriously wrong are quite low.

BONUS TIP: Practice picking up your bike

Being able to pick up your bike easily is an extremely underrated skill and it’s something that even many experienced riders don’t really practice enough. When you’re a new rider, you will drop your bike at some point, it’s inevitable. And if it happens to be in a relatively desolate place, that’s when you’re going to wish you knew how to pick it up.

There are plenty of videos to show you the correct technique to pick your bike up. In fact, the more you do it, the more you’ll also realise things about your bike’s weight distribution. Cruisers, for example, might look long and heavy but because a lot of them have a low centre of gravity, they’re not as difficult to pick up. A sleek-looking tall ADV, on the other hand, might feel a bit more difficult to pick up if it has a big fuel tank, for that might make it feel a bit top heavy.
