Expert Review
The Ducati XDiavel V4 has been launched in India, costing Rs 30,88,700 for Burning Red, and Rs 31,19,700 for Black Lava (both ex-showroom). Deliveries are expected to commence soon across Ducati dealerships in India. Buyers can also opt for a wide range of Ducati Performance accessories to personalise the motorcycle further.
The Ducati XDiavel V4 retains its long, low-slung sport-cruiser stance while adopting sharper and more muscular styling. The large sculpted fuel tank, exposed mechanical components, and quad-exit exhaust give the bike a strong road presence. The new metallic colour schemes add depth to the design, especially Burning Red, which is exclusive to the XDiavel.
Attention to detail is top-notch, as expected from Ducati. The single-sided swingarm leaves the massive star-shaped machined alloy wheel wrapped with the massive 240-section rear tyre fully exposed, enhancing the visual drama. It also gets all-LED lighting with signature DRLs, dynamic turn indicators, and a welcome light animation.
The XDiavel V4 comes equipped with a comprehensive electronics package. It gets cornering ABS, traction control, wheelie control, launch control, and engine brake control – all managed by a 6-axis IMU (Inertial Measurement Unit).
Convenience Features
The bike features a 6.9-inch TFT colour display with Bluetooth connectivity with call, message, and music controls. It also supports optional turn-by-turn navigation via the Ducati Link app. Cruise control and a bi-directional quickshifter come as standard.
The XDiavel V4 has a low 770mm seat height, making it accessible despite its large dimensions. The forward-set footpegs, and wide handlebar should create a relaxed cruiser riding position. Ducati has also claimed to have improved rear suspension travel and seat cushioning, which should help in handling poor road conditions better.
Despite its size, the bike weighs 229kg (wet, without fuel), which is 6kg lighter than the previous XDiavel. However, manoeuvring it at low speeds may still require some experience.
Pillion Comfort
The seats are claimed to be wider, longer, and thicker than before, and a grab handle now comes as standard. This should make the XDiavel V4 more usable for two-up touring compared to the older model.
The Ducati XDiavel V4 is powered by the 1,158cc V4 ‘Granturismo’ engine producing 168.6PS and 126Nm. This is the same engine seen on the Diavel V4, but tuned to deliver smoother power in a cruiser-friendly manner. Ducati claims a 0-100kmph time of under 3 seconds, which is remarkable for a cruiser.
The engine features rear cylinder deactivation, which switches off the rear cylinders at low speeds to reduce heat and improve comfort in traffic. While mileage figures are yet to be tested, Ducati claims improved efficiency compared to the older V-twin.
Gearbox
The 6-speed gearbox with a slip-and-assist clutch is paired to a bi-directional quickshifter that allows clutchless upshifts and downshifts.
Brakes
Braking duties are handled by high-end Brembo Stylema calipers with 330mm twin discs at the front. Combined with cornering ABS, braking performance should be among the best in the segment.
Ride Quality
With increased suspension travel and a more compliant setup than the older XDiavel, the XDiavel V4 should handle broken roads better, though its low ground clearance means riders will need to be cautious over large speed breakers on Indian roads.
The Ducati XDiavel V4 falls into the niche segment of ‘muscle bikes’ or ‘power cruisers’. Its closest alternative is the Triumph Rocket 3 GT. Other bikes in a similar price bracket include the Harley-Davidson Fat Boy, BMW R 18 Transcontinental, and Indian Chieftain Dark Horse – though none of these match the XDiavel’s outright performance and electronics package.
