Expert Review
Jintendra EV launched its flagship scooter, the Yunik, at the start of 2025. The EV looks promising on paper with its retro looks and good feature list. But does it stand out enough in the competitive electric two-wheeler market in India for you to consider it for your next purchase?
- The Yunik’s neo-retro design looks quite good from all angles. The look of the round LED headlight is well complemented by the combination of curvy and straight design lines.
- The build quality could have been a bit better, though, with small panel gaps visible in certain areas of the scooter
- Jitendra Yunik’s feature list is quite good, with an LCD instrument console that displays all the essential information like the range output, battery percentage and Bluetooth connectivity through the EV maker’s JENi mobile application.
- The unique riding mode selector on the left handlebar is very convenient and easy to use while on the move
- The riding posture is upright and comfortable, and there is enough space between the edge of the seat and the handlebar that even taller riders do not feel cramped
- The 180mm ground clearance ensures that the scooter can go over bad road surfaces with large bumps easily
- The seat is long and wide enough for two people to sit comfortably
- The underseat storage space is good enough for your daily groceries and other storage needs
- The Yunik has a 3.8kWh removable LMFP (Lithium Manganese Ferro-Phospate) battery which delivers a claimed range of 118km. The claimed range should be enough for most city commuters to manage their daily tasks.
The electric scooter offers fast acceleration from the get-go and, in Sports mode, is fast enough to easily overtake other vehicles.
- Its claimed top speed of 75kmph is enough for riding in the city and mild highway use as well.
- The throttle calibration is jerky and prevents the scooter from offering smooth performance
- The Yunik feels agile on the move and will make it easy to move in and out of traffic
- The scooter feels stable at straight-line speeds, which is good for long daily commutes
- The front disc brake feels a bit soft and doesn’t respond immediately if you gently squeeze the lever.
- But the rear disc brake offers a much sharper response and brings the scooters to a halt pretty quickly
- The suspension setup is on the firm side. This helps it change direction quickly, but bumps and potholes on the road can really be felt by the rider
- The Jitendra Yunik offers quick acceleration, good handling and a decent feature list. If you are looking for an electric scooter that will take care of your daily commuting needs, then the Jitendra Yunik is a good option for you to consider.
- The big issue though is the price - at Rs 1.24 lakh (ex-showroom), you can get other EV scooters which offer as many features and are also better built.
- So the Yunik might make sense for you only if you’re really sold on the Vespa-like designs
