If the Japanese manufacturer does bring at least a couple of these bikes to India, it will add some much-needed excitement to Honda’s lineup

The possibility of new Japanese bikes coming to India is always exciting. Why are we excited, though? Well, Honda has patented the designs of four motorcycles in India: Honda CB500 Hornet, Honda CBR500R, Honda CBR650R and the Honda CB1000 Hornet.

The Honda CB500 Hornet and the Honda CBR500R are powered by the same 471cc, liquid-cooled, parallel-twin engine found in the Honda NX500. The CB500 Hornet is an aggressive and sporty streetfighter, while the CBR500R is a fully-faired supersport.

The Honda CBR650R is a 649cc supersport with a redesigned headlight, fairing, seat and taillight compared to the older model. The fourth bike is the Honda CB1000 Hornet. The current biggest capacity Hornet gets quite an aggressive styling and is powered by the 2017 Honda CBR1000RR Fireblade’s 999cc, in-line four engine.

Now, even though Honda has patented the designs of these four bikes, it may not necessarily mean that the Japanese manufacturer will launch these bikes in India. Honda might have patented the designs to just secure the legal rights to these names here. The manufacturer had previously filed design patents in India for bikes and scooters like Honda Forza 350, Honda CRF300L and the Honda CL300 Scrambler, but none of those vehicles made their way to our shores.

That said, we do hope that at least a couple of the four bikes mentioned above make their way to India. The CB500 Hornet, the CBR500R and the NX500 were all unveiled at EICMA 2023 and out of the three, the NX500 was launched in India at the start of the year. So, will Honda bring its other two siblings to India as well? We can only hope at this point of time.
