An affordable commuter to a roadster and more, here’s what Ola has planned

Ola Electric Bikes

Ola Electric has patented designs for their upcoming electric bikes and that includes a commuter motorcycle, a roadster and a sporty roadster bike. The patent filings have given us a decent idea of what we can expect from these upcoming e-bikes.

Ola Commuter Bike

Ola Upcoming Commuter Bike

The commuter bike gets a sharp-looking design overall. Judging by design filings, it gets an easy-to-reach handlebar and mid-set footpegs which should give an upright riding posture. Coming to the powertrain, this bike features a hub-mounted motor and we expect it to get a similar level of performance as a 125cc petrol-powered bike. It is expected to offer a claimed range that could be roughly around 200km.

Going by the design image, the bike is likely to be built on a dual-cradle frame. It is suspended on a telescopic fork and twin shock absorbers. The alloy design is simple and is similar to what we have seen on 100-110cc bikes. The rear tyre looks quite skinny as well. Braking duties will be handled by a disc at the front and drum in the rear. Overall, the simple parts that are likely to be used on this motorcycle will help keep its costs down.

Lastly, in terms of features, we expect the bike to come with full LED lighting. It will likely get a TFT console with smartphone connectivity and turn-by-turn navigation as well.

The Ola commuter bike is likely to come at an expected price of around Rs 1.4 lakh (ex-showroom). The bike could be unveiled by the end of 2024, maybe launched by mid-2025. The Ola commuter bike could also likely be the first bike launched by the manufacturer. Once launched, it will go up against the Revolt RV400.

Ola Roadster

Ola Roadster

The Ola Roadster will be a more premium offering from the brand and going by the images, it is clear that the bike looks quite similar to the Ola Roadster concept that was showcased a couple of months ago but with a lot of production friendly bits. The bike features a similar sharp design language and comes with a few design elements that we had seen on the roadster such as the headlight.

It comes with a frame-mounted motor linked to a chain/belt drive. We expect the bike to offer performance similar to that of a 160cc petrol-powered bike.

In terms of underpinnings, the roadster is built on a double cradle frame and features a box section swingarm, which will go a long way in reducing costs as compared to the single sided swingarm on the concept. The suspension setup comprises a telescopic fork and a monoshock. The bike rolls on what appears to be slightly more premium looking alloy wheels with fatter tyres, similar to what we have seen on the roadster concept.

Features wise, we can expect a TFT console with smartphone connectivity and turn-by-turn navigation. Other than that, the bike will likely feature 4-directional switchgear to navigate the console.

Ola Sporty Roadster

Ola Sporty Roadster

The Ola Sporty Roadster will share a lot in common with the Ola Roadster, but the main difference here will come down to the design. The Sporty Roadster comes with a clip-on handlebar instead of a flat handlebar, ensuring the rider sits in a more committed riding posture. There’s also a pillion seat cowl as well.

Other changes include the addition of slightly different looking tank panels and an additional cowl at the bottom, giving the bike a bit more aggressive look overall.

The Ola Roadster and Ola Sporty Roadster are likely to be unveiled by the end of 2024, with a potential launch by mid-2025 like the commuter bike. The Roadster could come at a price of Rs 1.7 lakh and the Sporty Roadster could cost Rs 1.8 lakh (both prices ex-showroom). The Ola Roadster and Sporty Roadster will go up against the Tork Kratos.
