The weight difference is pretty substantial

Triumph has taken the wraps off its most affordable bikes, the Speed 400 and Scrambler 400X globally. The interesting bit is that the bikes are now showcased on the bikemakers’ India website, and there is a significant discrepancy in the weight between the international model and the Indian model.

While the globally unveiled Speed 400 weighs 170kg, the Indian model tips the scales at 178kg. And the international-spec Scrambler 400X tips the scale 178kg, however, the Indian-spec model gets a kerb weight of 186kg. It seems that the Brits have taken a keen liking to the Chicken Tikka Masala and Gulab Jamuns.

On a serious note, the international-spec models are comparatively light, and the reason for the increase in weight in India is yet unknown. Sure, there will be a few add-ons like a saree guard for the Indian bikes, but that shouldn’t result in an 8kg weight discrepancy. We shall get more clarity on the subject on July 5, at the launch of the bikes in India.

If you wish to know more about the Speed 400, check out this story, and if you are more interested in the Scrambler 400X, head here.

The pre-bookings for both bikes have already commenced and we expect the Speed 400 and Scrambler 400X to come with a sticker price of Rs 2.7 lakh and Rs 3.2 lakh (ex-showroom) respectively. The Speed 400 will rival the likes of  KTM 390 Duke, Honda CB300R, BMW G 310 R and  Zontes GK350, whereas the Scrambler 400X compete with the Yezdi Scrambler, Royal Enfield Scram 411, and upcoming Husqvarna Svartpilen 401.
