Not A Good Option
Not A Good Option
In my personal experience of 2.5 years riding the Access 125 Ride Connect Disc variant, I have found that it does not live up to the mileage claims made by the company. Despite the company's claim of achieving 62 kmpl in an average speed range of 30-50 kmph, I have only been able to attain around 45-50 kmpl. It never even reached 40 kmpl. For the first 2 years, I diligently serviced it at a Suzuki-authorized service center. Suzuki recommends using Ecstar, a lower-grade oil, for the engine. Even though I never pushed the scooter beyond 55 kmph in my 2.5 years of ownership and never missed a service, I found that this oil could not withstand temperatures of 35 degrees Celsius or above. Regardless of whether you ride daily or just once or twice a week, this subpar oil barely lasts more than two months or a little over 10-15 days. During summer, the oil loses its stickiness and transforms into a black, watery fluid, sometimes even before the scooter completes 600 km. Over the last 6 months, after switching to Castrol Activ Scooter 10W 30 oil for two changes, I have been consistently getting 44-45 kmpl (please note that mileage tests are based on tank-to-tank measurements). This oil only needs to be changed after completing 1500 km or more. I understand that this might still be below expectations, but it's not just an issue with the Access; all BS6 Phase 1 two-wheelers are grappling with low mileage problems. Moreover, once E20 fuel becomes more widely available, mileage is expected to decrease further. Another shortcoming is not necessarily the scooter's fault; it's a cost-cutting measure by Suzuki in terms of the battery. The stock battery is designed to last around 1 year, and after that, it struggles to support the self-start function. After three or more failed self-start attempts, kick-starting can lead to issues like increased RPM. Many people blame the scooter's overall quality, but in my view, the battery is the culprit. I replaced it with a new Exide Xplore battery, and the issue disappeared. Exide seems to manufacture such subpar stock batteries that just manage to last the 1-year warranty period, likely to promote sales of its other models. Read More
