Bajaj Pulsar 220 Dtsi Overview
Bearing the name of the second largest motorbike manufacturer in the country which ranks third in the world, Bajaj Pulsar 220 Dtsi carries the family genes of trust, reliability and efficiency. Making motorcycles that are not only blessed with some very enthralling looks but are driven by mavens of engines under the hood is a tradition that has been a part of Bajaj Auto's production history. But what actually makes Bajaj bikes such a huge hit in India is that all these brilliant packages of style and technology have always been within an easy reach of the common man making them popular instantly. It is a known fact that the Bajaj factory works on the strategy of innovation and the people in there believe in nothing but working some new miracle or the other every time they roll out something new in the market. And that is what is reflected in Bajaj Pulsar 220 Dtsi as well.
This is the bike that introduced the world with the two marvelous technologies of DTS-i (Digital Twin Spark Ignition) and ExhausTEC (Exhaust Torque Expansion Chamber) developed by the Indian bike-major, Bajaj. While the DTS-i enhances the combustion speed and quality, the ExhausTEC system ensures a uniform torque output throughout the rev scale and keeps noise at its minimum. Besides the technical traits, the Pulsar 220 Dtsi is also very rich in exterior looks. Not going for the bulky attire flaunted by its P220F, P220S succeeds wonderfully in putting up an agile and light body for show which especially pleases the speed-crazy riders a lot. In fact, the carbureted version of 220 that came out in 2009 was tagged as the fastest bike in India by the company. The following year saw the release of two new models of Bajaj Pulsar 220 Dtsi called the 220F (Faired model) and the 220S (Street Fighter) while the year 2011 brought with it a twin-toned revamp of P220 Dtsi.
Bajaj Pulsar 220 Dtsi Designing
Sporting overall dimensions of 2035mm x 750mm x 1165mm, Bajaj Pulsar 220 Dtsi offers a wide ground clearance of 150mm and a fairly wide wheelbase of 1350mm. And without the overwhelmingly muscular build of the Faired version, the Street Fighter becomes quite a light and easy ride too with a total kerb weight of 150kg only. The handlebars for the Pulsar 220 Dtsi have been chosen to be of clip-on type that make handling an easy feat and the mounting of controls for the electric start, engine kill, pass switch and self-canceling indicators on the handlebars makes them easily accessible for the driver.
Colors of Bajaj Pulsar 220 Dtsi Engine & Performance
Known as the fastest bike in the country, Bajaj Pulsar 220 Dtsi is driven by the most powerful engine in the entire segment of performance bikes in India that, in turn, is fueled by two innovative technologies of Bajaj. Being an air-cooled, single-cylinder, 4-stroke, 220cc DTS-i engine, this mill can tune up to a maximum of 20.75bhp at 8500rpm for a peak 19.12Nm at 7000rpm. Possessing such magnificent power output figures, Pulsar 220 Dtsi can dash away from 0-60kmph within a mere 3.6 seconds while 0-100kmph takes it a span of 10.5 seconds only. The suspension system employed for the front wheel is the telescopic type with anti-friction bush while the rear wheel gets a 5-way adjustable system of suspension with Nitrox shock absorber for improved comfort and a bump-free ride.
Bajaj Pulsar 220 Dtsi Braking & Handling
For a bike that has a speedometer marked with a top speed of 142kmph, secure and efficient braking is a must to keep the riders safe at all times. That's why, Bajaj Pulsar 220 Dtsi comes with a pair of Disc brakes for the front and rear wheel with the front being of a diameter of 260mm while the rear is of 230mm diameter. To assist these brakes, thick tubeless tyres of 90/90 x 17 inch for the front and 120/80 x 17 inch for the rear alloy wheel have been added by the designers of P220. As far as handling is concerned, the entire structure of Pulsar 220 makes straight line driving an extremely effortless task and even cornering is no difficult feat. To top it all, the impressive suspension system works seamlessly to provide an even superior handling on road.
Bajaj Pulsar 220 Dtsi Safety Features
Besides the pair of 260mm and 230mm Disc brakes that provide a very good amount of safety to the riders of this dashing bike, the presence of broad tyres supplies a better road grip to assist in braking. Plus, the tyres being tubeless in itself saves the riders of Pulsar 220 from any troubles resulting from punctures. Plus the 12V full DC electrical wire-work of P220 supplies continuous power to the large projector headlamp of 55W that provides proper illumination at all speeds and even at a stand-still. For the pillion rider, split grab-rails have also been added at the rear end of the bike.
