Overview
Honda Activa i is compact, lighter and carries modern design cues that other members of the Honda family don’t. With the aim to spice up the 110cc segment by adding colour and style, Honda brought to light the new Honda Activa i. Though it is regarded as the unisex 110cc commuter, it feels a tad female-oriented, especially with its fibre body, color options and the compact profile. The kerb weight of 103Kg makes it easily manageable in the city. The numerous storage options, accessories and convenience features give it the requisites to lead the pack. The HET engine complies with BS-IV emission norms and pollutes the environment comparatively less. Despite its compact structure, the seat is wide enough and comes with optimum cushioning, offering much-needed comfort while you manoeuvre it through the congested city lanes. The seat height is quite low at 765mm, fuel tank capacity is 5.3 litres and the wheelbase sits at 1238mm. Hydraulic spring-loaded suspension, economical power mill, stylish graphics and the features like CBS with equalizer make Honda Activa i a worthy 110cc scooter to consider.
Design
Upgrading their best-selling scooter would not have been easy, but Honda designers have done incredibly well to facelift the Activa and naming it as the new Activa i. It looks trendy from the word go. The new graphics adorned by the scooter look stylish while the vibrant colors make it a modern-day offering for sure. The front is embraced by components like 12V halogen headlamp, which has AHO as standard and the clear-lens turn indicators that are neatly placed vertically on the apron. The apron gets a shorter design as compared to the Activa. There are body-colored rear view mirrors that enhance aesthetics of the scooter. Further accentuating elements on the scooter are rear grab rail and the well-done tail section. The seat is comfy and wears durable material. The instrument console gets an analogue display for the speedometer, odometer and the fuel gauge. There are plenty of accessories on offer including inner rack, inner box, mat floor, seat cover, handlebar grip and more. Dimensionally, it measures 1795mm long, 705mm wide and 1115mm high. The ground clearance is 165mm which is good enough to cross the bumps and rough patches.
Features
Taking care of the safety duties on the scooter are features like CBS with equalizer, 130mm drum brakes at the front and rear, halogen headlamp with AHO and the tubeless tyres that offer an extended range, enhanced stability and control.
Engine, Mileage & Performance
Powering the stylish scooter is the BS-IV compliant HET-powered (Honda Eco Technology) fan-cooled 4-stroke 109.19cc engine that pumps out 8bhp of max power at 7,000rpm and 8.94Nm of peak torque at 5,500rpm. It gets a V-Matic transmission system and is claimed to deliver a mileage of 66Kmpl. It can attain a top speed of 83Kmph. As expected from Honda, the engine is extremely refined and you’d hardly encounter any vibrations. The performance of the scooter is exceptional in the city and due to the fibre body it manoeuvres easily and yields incredible efficiency numbers.
Handling & Ride Quality
To offer a stable ride and a satisfying experience to the rider, a combination of good suspension, brakes and tyres is necessary. Keeping the same mindset, Honda has blessed the scooter with spring loaded hydraulic suspension at the front as well as at the rear. In the braking department, it is showered with the likes of 130mm drums at both ends. However, to enhance the braking performance, it is equipped with CBS (Combi Braking System) with equalizer at the rear. The 10-inch wheels get grippy tubeless tyres of section 90/100-10 at either end. The road imperfections are seen through quite easily by the scooter and dealing with road’s rough patches is just a breeze.
