26th August, 2015: Suzuki Slingshot Plus is a 125cc commuter motorcycle that was introduced back in 2011 to replace its elder mate, Suzuki Zeus that was not doing well as per the expectations of the manufacturer. The bike comes in two variants viz. Slingshot Plus SEU and SCD, which differ from each other in availability of electric start and disc brake. It is priced at Rs. 60,158 for SCD version and Rs. 58,361 for the SEU variant. Suzuki Slingshot comes in four attractive colour schemes namely: Glass Sparkle Black & Blue Graphics, Candy Antares Red, Pearl Mirage White, Glass Sparkle Black & Red Graphics. The bike takes on TVS Phoenix 125 and Hero MotoCorp Glamour quite competitively.

  • Overview

    Suzuki introduced its premium 125cc commuter motorcycle, Slingshot after it decided to retire its previous 125cc player - Zeus from the Indian market in hope of getting better results from its 125cc product portfolio. However, the sales didn't managed to went up to the expectations and the manufacturer had to remain gratified with the average sales report of the vehicle.

    Suzuki Slingshot is powered by a 124cc, four-stroke, air-cooled engine that comes mated to a five-speed gearbox. It generates a net power of 8.5bhp at 7,500rpm with a maximum torque of 10Nm at 3,500rpm and uses wet multiplate clutch assembly for power transmission. The bike runs on 2.75 -18 42P front and 3.00 -18 52P rear tyres with stylish alloy wheels. The braking is done via reliable drum brakes installed at both ends, which gets even more aggressive with the addition of an optional 240mm front disc brake to the package. The bike avails a comfortable and stress free ride as it comes with telescopic forks upfront and swing arm with coil spring aided shock absorbers at the rear that works well in all conditions.

    The machine has a decent body designing that make it a good looking 125cc commuter. The front section has a sharp and edgy headlamp unit that looks premium with the clear lens turning blinkers. The fuel tank has been crafted impressively that can store 12 liter of fuel besides giving a good riding position to the rider. The longer seat offers an optimum comfort for two but could be even more soothing if the manufacturer could worked more in that area. The tail end of the bike has a robust tail light that matches with the overall styling of the bike.

    Suzuki Slingshot comes with the body dimensions of 2,035mm x 770mm x 1,075mm (LxWxH) and has a wheelbase and minimum ground clearance of 1,265mm and 160mm respectively that offers good handling and stability. The total kerb weight of the machine is 129kgs that makes it an easy to ride utility tool that fits-in well for daily usage. The instrument console of the bike is easy to read and informative comprising of an analogue speedometer, odometer, tripmeter and fuel gauge. 

  • Design

    Suzuki Slingshot Plus has a quite decent body styling that makes it stand between the traditional commuter and an entry-level performance motorcycle. The front profile gets a sharp and edgy headlamp unit without a visor that gives a naked appearance to the bike. The fuel tank is designed neatly that offers a good riding posture to the rider. Going towards the rear, the bike has a sleek and long seat that isn't top notch but still offers enough comfort to the rider and pillion even on longer journeys. The side panels and the fuel tank are wrapped up in attractive graphics that further enhances the aesthetics of the bike. The rear end of the bike comes with a stylish tail lamp with clear lens turning blinkers. It further incorporates a body coloured grab rail that enhances the overall appeal.

    The bike comes with the body dimensions of 2,035mm x 770mm x 1,075mm (LxWxH) and has a wheelbase of 1,265mm. A minimum ground clearance of 160mm offers a fair amount of stability while cornering. Suzuki Slingshot has been assisted with a 12 liter fuel tank and weighs to 129kgs. The instrument cluster of the machine is traditional that comes with an analogue speedometer, tripmeter and fuel gauge. 

  • Engine & Performance

    Suzuki Slingshot Plus is powered by a 124cc, single cylinder, four-stroke, air-cooled engine that comes mated to a five-speed constant mesh transmission system. The mill churns out a maximum power of 8.5bhp at 7,500rpm along with a peak torque of 10Nm at 3,500rpm. The engine uses VM18 carburetor and CDI as its default fuel and ignition system respectively. The fuel efficient motor has a compression ratio of 9.6:1 and has a bore x stroke ratio of 53.5mm x 55.2mm. With this hardware, the bike returns a combined fuel economy of 60kmpl under standard conditions. 

  • Braking & Handling

    The vehicle has been equipped with 2.75 -18 42P front and 3.00 -18 52P rear grippy tyres that are mounted over robust black alloy wheels. The bike comes to a standstill with the help of Mechanical, Leading Trailing, Drum type brakes fitted at both ends. Moreover, the manufacturer also offers a front 240mm disc brake as an optional feature. The suspension duties are carried out by telescopic forks at the front and swing arm with coil spring aided shock absorbers at the rear. 

  • Safety Features

    Suzuki Slingshot Plus receives a powerful 12V-35/35W multi reflector headlight that delivers a bright and steady beam of light even under low rpm conditions, thereby ensuring a proper vision at nights. The twin rear view mirrors keeps the rider aware of activities going on behind him. Furthermore, the company offers an optional 240mm front disc brake that upgrades the stopping potential of the machine. The above described bunch of features make the bike a true companion for daily commuting and other all-round purposes.

    First i am talking about self start i am using its self more than 1 year it have not a singal problem, which is good in this bike.second is mileage which is not good in this bike, and it is a very light weight also so that good for school/college.     I love my first bike. it is slingshot 125cc with drum brakes. it has very nice acceleration as compared to any other bikes in this segment available in the market. i have done long journeys of around 200-250km at an regular stretch & had been to hilly areas like musoorie on my bike, but it never had any problem of breakdown or any mechanical fault except that its engine gets heated and you can feel it on yo...
