Finally there is good news from the district of Pune in Maharashtra for the passengers who do not like travelling to their offices or other destinations by public utility vehicles or private means of transport. The Pune District Transport Authority is going to initiate a new kind of experiment by making two wheelers available on rent to the daily passengers within the city of Pune. The scheme will be implemented from the month of June and for which necessary planning and other procedures are in progress. This scheme will be first started by providing the two wheelers operated by the  battery mainly the electric scooters like Heroelectric E Sprint, Heroelectric Maxi, Indus Yo. Another reason of renting the electric two wheelers as speculated by the Pune District Corporation is that it will help in making the pollution free environment of the city.

According to the reports the programme will be initiated into different phases in the different areas of the city. To begin with it will start renting the electric bike between the areas of Pune and sub-urban area of Pune i.e., Pimpri-Chinchwad. For this different outlets renting the electric bikes on rent will be open in the areas of Chinchwad, Wanavdi and Kothrud. These outlets will be authorised by the Pune District Transport Corporation.

These outlets will give bikes on rent only to those people who are above the age of 18 years and who are having the official riding license issued by the District Transport Authority. Another major formality that will be strictly followed before renting any two wheeler on rent will be the address proof and the identity card issued by the election department.

Once the formalities are finalised a smart card will be issued to the registered users which can be obtained by paying  the  requisite fee to the authorised outlet for  renting the  scooter. After the contract term is over the deposited amounted will be returned back to the user.

The transport department is still speculating on the leasing process of the two wheelers. There are options of availing the two wheelers to the users on monthly, weekly or daily basis. However, the calculation of charges and other matters will be clearly determined once the programme is finally implemented.

Though the success of programme is still not known but one thing is quite sure that even if this programme fails but it will open the new doors for the transportation which will be improved with necessary endeavours in the  coming future. The credit will definitely go to the Pune District Transport Corporation.
