Yamaha R15 Price in India:
The Yamaha R15 V3 has been one of the most popular motorcycles from the Japanese brand in India. The Yamaha R15 V3 BS6 was launched at Rs 1,45,300, but after subsequent price hikes, the motorcycle now retails at Rs 1,50,600 (for Thunder Grey), Rs 1,51,700 (for Racing Blue), and Rs 1,52,700 (for the Dark Knight Edition). All prices ex-showroom Delhi.
Yamaha R15 Features:
One of the main reasons for the popularity of the R15 V3 is its styling. The new R15 borrows design details from the Yamaha R6, and it looks absolutely stunning. It gets twin LED headlights and a sculpted body for a sportier stance. It also features an all-digital instrument console with a shift light. A new addition on the BS6 variant is the side stand engine cut-off switch, which won’t let the bike start if the side stand is down.
Yamaha R15 Engine:
On the mechanical front, the R15’s updated BS6-compliant 155cc liquid-cooled single-cylinder motor now makes 18.6PS at 10,000rpm and 14.1Nm at 8500rpm. That is a drop of 0.7PS and 0.6Nm over the BS4 variant of the R15 V3. It continues to feature a 6-speed gearbox with assist-and-slipper clutch.
Yamaha R15 Suspension & Brakes:
Underpinnings of the new Yamaha R15 are similar to those of the older bike, comprising a deltabox frame suspended on a telescopic fork and preload adjustable monoshock. Stopping power is thanks to the disc brakes on both the ends with dual-channel ABS. Radial rear tyre was an extra, but the BS6 Yamaha R15 gets it as a standard fitment. The sporty-riding position of the bike remains unchanged, but the pillion seat height has been dropped by 20mm on the new BS6 version.
Yamaha R15 Rivals:
The Yamaha R15 V3’s direct rivals include the KTM RC 125 and the Bajaj Pulsar RS 200. However, there are other motorcycles in the same price bracket, including the Yamaha MT 15, FZ25, Jawa, and the Classic 350.

R15 V3 Expert Review
The third-generation Yamaha R15 was launched with a new design, a new motor with better power figures, and plenty of latest features. In terms of design, the latest R15 V3.0 is heavily inspired by its elder sibling, the R1. It features new LED headlights, aerodynamic front cowl with an air vent, muscular fuel tank, new
windscreen and stylish rear view mirrors. The dual-tone paint scheme adds to the aggressive looks of this power-packed entry-level performance bike which comes loaded with features like an all-digital instrument console that includes shift light, VVA indicator and a connector for USB charging. Powering the new R15 V3.0 is an upgraded 154.9cc, single-cylinder, 4-stroke, liquid-cooled, SOHC engine which now generates a max power of 19.30PS @ 10,000rpm and peak torque of 15Nm @ 8,500rpm, mated to a 6-speed gearbox. Yamaha has also introduced Variable Valve Action (VVA) in the latest R15 which adds flexibility to the engine’s valvetrain, thus improving the engine’s efficiency. Yamaha claims that it can clock a top speed of 136kmph and returns a mileage of 45kmpl. It is currently offered in only one variant - V3.0 which is priced at Rs 1.25 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi). The third-generation R15 will rival the likes of the Suzuki Gixxer SF.
Design and Features
The design elements of the new R15 V3.0 are by and large drawn from its elder sibling, the R1. At the front, it houses all-new LED headlights and an aerodynamic front cowl with air-vent. The large windshield and stylish rear view mirrors add to the bold looks of the sports bike. It also gets a new front fairing with sharp cuts and creases which merges with the muscularly designed fuel tank, thereby making it look aggressive. The fuel tank also features knee recesses to easily place your knees while riding. Moving to the sides, the black coloured side panels add to the style statement of the R15 V3.0 and look quite appealing. The tail end looks sharp and edgy as well with a sleek LED tail light and tapered rear cowl. It also gets a new black coloured tyre cover which closely hugs the rear tyre and adds to the sporty look. Also, the bike features a new exhaust with a faux carbon-fibre finish which looks classy. Similar to the previous version, the latest R15 V3.0 also gets a split seat setup, however, Yamaha claims that the pillion seat has been lowered and is much more comfortable now. The R15 V3.0 comes fitted with an all-digital instrument console that includes a tachometer, odometer, tripmeter, clock, shift light, VVA indicator and a connector for USB charging.
Engine and Performance
Powering the latest R15 V3.0 is an updated 154.9cc, single-cylinder, 4-stroke, liquid-cooled, SOHC engine which now produces a max power of 19.30PS @ 10,000rpm which is 2.5 PS more than the previous version, and peak torque of 15Nm @ 8,500rpm, mated to a 6-speed gearbox. You also get Variable Valve Action (VVA) in the latest R15 which adds flexibility to the engine’s valve train thereby improving the engine’s efficiency. Yamaha claims that it can reach a top speed of 136kmph and returns a mileage of 45kmpl. Another thing to note is that the new R15 V3.0 is now equipped with a slipper clutch which will provide better stability to the rear wheel especially when downshifting aggressively. Although the engine is now more powerful and has received substantial upgrades, Yamaha claims that it still weighs the same.
Braking and Handling
The R15 V3.0 is built on the tried and tested deltabox frame. Suspension setup comprises of conventional telescopic forks up front and a monoshock at the rear. It comes fitted with 17-inch alloy wheels shod with tubeless tyres. The tyres are now wider in comparison to the previous version, 100/80 at the front and 140/70 at the rear, the latter is a radial one. Braking duties are handled by a 282mm disc at the front and a 220mm disc at the rear. Yamaha offers dual channel ABS as an option on the R15 v3.0, that is until the 1 April, 2019 deadline when the non-ABS varitant will have to be discontinued.
Safety and Features
Speaking of safety, the R15 V3.0 is equipped with disc brakes at both ends to effeciently handle braking at high speeds. Moreover, the wider tyres provide a better grip on slippery road conditions. It also features Automatic Headlamp On (AHO) which keeps the headlamp turned on at all times. It is the only 150cc motorcycle that comes with dual channel ABS as its peers come with single channel options.
