About Yamaha Saluto
Yamaha has introduced the Saluto 125 with Unified Braking System (UBS). This feature is essentially a combined braking setup which applies the front brake partially, while the rear brake is applied fully. Yamaha says this feature reduces the braking distance, offers better handling during braking and results in smoother chassis behaviour during braking. The motorcycle is available in both front disc and drum versions. The former costs Rs 60,500 while the latter will set you back by Rs 58,800. For an additional Rs 1,000, you get a Matt green colour variant which looks quite stylish with its military-esque theme. Apart from the new colour and UBS, the bike remains the same otherwise. It locks horns with Honda CB Shine, Hero Glamour and Bajaj Discover 125.

Touted as the family commuter, the Yamaha Saluto is meant for the buyers looking for an economical ride and varied usages like daily commuting, office travels, shopping trips and nearby hauls on the weekends. The bike gets a compact and a fairly upmarket design that exhilarates you to the core. The stylish-looking fuel tank gets a chiselled look and new dual-tone graphics. The weight of the bike has been kept in check to deliver unbelievable performance and economy numbers. Its kerb weight of 112Kg is claimed to be the best in the segment that not only helps in easy manoeuvring but uplifts the fuel efficiency by up to 10%. The generous ground clearance of 180mm is ideal for Indian roads. The disc brake variant on offer adds icing on the cake for the buyers who consider safety as one of the important features. Powered by the Blue Core Engine, it suspends on the reliable pre-load adjustable rear suspension and features grippy tubeless tyres. The Saluto Drum is available in three color shades, black, matt green and red and the price starts at INR 53,898 (Ex-showroom, Delhi) whereas the Saluto Disc starts at INR 56,364 (Ex-showroom, Delhi).
Design
Sporting typical commuter-like looks, the Yamaha Saluto is practical and a lightweight motorbike you’d love to get on. Accentuating the appeal, the bike comes with elements like halogen headlamp, aerodynamic front cowl, clear-lens front turn blinkers, convenient rear grab rail, blacked-out engine, 18-inch alloy wheels, a long comfy seat with adequate padding and a 7.6-litre fuel tank that embraces all-new graphics and muscular design. The color schemes on offer are not only pleasing to eyes but gels with the bike’s outlook. The brand has bestowed it with an electric start switch for a quick start and go-attitude. However, there is a kick too as a back-up. The instrument console consists of an analogue speedometer, fuel gauge and odometer. The upright riding position of the bike is ideal for daily commuting, which in the combination with well-cushioned seat and rear grab rail add to the convenience of the rider as well as the pillion. Manoeuvring the bike is super-easy, thanks to its compact structure, lightweight, apt riding stance and wide handlebar. Considering the quality of roads it’ll ride on, the company has given it a generous ground clearance of 180mm, which makes it an ideal bike to own especially in India.
Dimensionally, it measures 2035mm long, 720mm wide and 1090mm high. The wheelbase of the bike sits at 1265mm.
Engine, Mileage & Performance
The Yamaha Saluto is powered by the 125cc air-cooled, 4-stroke carburetted engine which is built around the concept lines of Blue Core Technology. The engine is mated to a 4-speed gearbox, produces max power of 8.3PS at 7,000rpm and peak torque of 10.1Nm at 4,500rpm. The Blue core engine makes the bike economical without hampering its performance, which is incredible and acceptable by the industry standards. Under ideal riding situations, it delivers an efficiency of 78Kmpl. Due to its lightweight, it is easy to handle in city traffic, produce better figures and claim a high fuel economy.
Handling & Ride Quality
The bike is bolted on the diamond frame that provides it strength and the much-need agility for the city. The combination of telescopic fork and Swingarm with adjustable pre-load carries out the suspension duties for the Saluto at the front and rear respectively. The assembly is good enough to see through the road imperfections. On the braking front, it gets drums on both ends. Plus, there is an optional 245mm front disc variant for buyers to pick. The wheels are shod with 80/100-18 section tubeless tyres at the front as well as at the rear for avoiding instant flats and maximum responsiveness.
Features
The rider gets confidence from the front disc, reliable Swingarm rear suspension and the low rolling resistance tubeless tyres that do not deflate instantaneously in case of a puncture. Plus, there is a big halogen headlamp for bright vision.
