Yamaha sent a media invite for an event on August 27, 2026, that states the event “celebrates precision, passion, innovation, and the thrill of riding".

That leads us to believe that it could be the launch of the Yamaha R2.
The speculation about the launch grew stronger after Yamaha trademarked the R2 name in India.
The R2 is expected to co-exist with the Yamaha R15 and will not replace it.
The R2 is expected to be based on the same R15 V4 platform but with an upgraded engine.
The biggest change is going to be a 200cc engine with output comparable to the KTM RC 200's 25PS and 19.2Nm.
The R15 offers great ride quality with a USD fork, monoshock, a Deltabox frame, and good brakes, and the R2 is expected to deliver the same.
The price of the R2 could be expected to be around Rs 2.15 lakh (ex-showroom).
It will be costlier than the Yamaha R15 M but slightly cheaper than the KTM RC 200.
The launch of R2 is still speculative based on the invite, and official confirmation from Yamaha is awaited
