Yamaha recently unveiled the all-new XMAX SPHEV concept scooter

By Sahil | Published Feb 27,2025

As the name suggests, Yamaha has chosen its XMAX scooter platform for initial testing purposes

Has a single-cylinder petrol engine & electric motor, similar to Kawasaki’s hybrid bikes

Gets a dual electric motor setup - one drives the wheel directly and other motor is linked to the engine

The 2nd motor acts as a power generator and provides extra power when needed

In electric mode, the primary motor powers the scooter, providing maximum efficiency for city rides

In automatic mode, the electric motor works in low-speed, while the petrol engine takes over at higher speeds

Since the SPHEV is still in development, Yamaha has not disclosed battery or motor specifications

The hybrid system blends petrol reliability & electric efficiency, making it suitable for various riding conditions

If launched, it will be a practical hybrid alternative to both petrol & electric scooters
