What is the Full Form of TVS?

TVS Motor Company is named after the founder of its parent company, TVS Group, Mr Thirukkurungudi Vengaram Sundram Iyengar. In 1911, T.V. Sundram Iyengar laid the foundation of TVS Group, a bus service company that operated under the name of Southern Roadways Limited.

In 1962, Sundaram Clayton was formed as a new company under TVS Group, a joint venture between TVS Group and UK-based Clayton Dewandre Holdings. This company started its operations as a manufacturer of automotive parts including brakes, exhausts, and compressors. In 1976, it set up a manufacturing facility in Hosur (Tamil Nadu) for making mopeds under its new division. The company later rebranded as TVS Motor Company in 2001 after it and Suzuki went on their separate ways.

Is TVS an Indian Company?

Currently owned by TVS Group, TVS Motor Company is a fully-Indian multinational two-wheeler company with its headquarters and manufacturing facility in Hosur. The TVS Motor Company is India’s second-largest two-wheeler company in terms of exports and the third-largest two-wheeler company in terms of revenue. In terms of turnover, TVS Motor Company is the biggest company within the TVS Group.

Is TVS Owned by Suzuki?

In 1982, Sundaram Clayton Limited entered a joint venture with Suzuki Motor Corporation from Japan for commercial production of motorcycles with Suzuki’s technical expertise. The production of motorcycles as TVS-Suzuki products began a few years later, with the Ind-Suzuki AX100 two-stroke 100cc bike as the partnership’s first product for the Indian market. The brand then launched newer models with two-stroke Suzuki engines, including Supra, Samurai, Shogun and Shaolin.

In 2001, the joint venture between Sundaram Clayton and Suzuki Motor Corporation split, with TVS Group gaining complete ownership of this company and renaming it TVS Motor Company. As a part of this decision of splitting, TVS was not allowed to use Suzuki's name for its products anymore, and Suzuki went through a 30-month moratorium period during which it promised not to enter the Indian two-wheeler market.

Suzuki eventually returned to India in 2006 as Suzuki Motorcycle India Private Limited, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Suzuki, Japan.

Which is the First Bike from TVS?

In association with Suzuki Motor Corporation, TVS launched its first-ever motorcycle, a 100cc two-stroke commuter named Ind-Suzuki AX100. However, after its split with Suzuki, the first fully indigenous motorcycle entirely developed by TVS was the four-stroke commuter motorcycle named TVS Victor.
