We would not recommend you going for a long ride on the TVS Jupiter, as the vehicle is underpowered for a highway ride and will be a bit uncomfortable for long rides as well.

Expert Review
The TVS Jupiter is the second best selling scooter in India after the segment-leading Honda Activa. Last year in August, the company launched the Classic edition of the Jupiter, featuring a retro classic styling theme with a windshield, chrome-finished mirrors, cushioned backrest, and dual-tone seats. Powering the scooter
is a BSIV-compliant, 109.7cc single-cylinder engine that produces max power of 7.99PS @ 7500rpm and peak torque of 8Nm @ 5500 rpm. TVS claims that the scooter can reach a top speed of 85kmph and returns a fuel economy of 62kmpl. The total fuel tank capacity of the scooter is 5 litres. Notable features include TVS’ unique Eco and Power mode indicators, external fuel-filler cap, mobile charging point, high beam flasher and a reserve indicator.
The Jupiter range is offered in four variants - STD, ZX, ZX Disc, and the recently launched Classic edition. The base variant comes with basic features and is priced at Rs 51,163. The Classic edition is the top-end variant which commands a price tag of Rs 57,323 (ex-showroom Delhi). One can choose from 9 different colours: Midnight black, Volcano red, Pristine white, Mystic gold, Sunlit ivary, Royal wine, Titanium grey, Matte blue and Autumn brown. The TVS Jupiter continues to give tough competition to the Honda Activa that has been launched in its 5G version for 2018, while the Hero Maestro Edge and the Yamaha Alpha are its other notable competitors.
Design and Features
The TVS Jupiter features a simplistic yet modern and stylish design. The front apron houses a halogen headlamp with twin pilot lamps, which is seldom found in scooters. There are large clear lens indicators placed below the headlight on either side along with a triangular air vent in the middle. The sides feature a 3D Jupiter badge, adding to its visual appeal. Coming to the rear end, it has an LED tail light, clear lens indicators, silver grab rails and a convenient external fuel filler cap. The Jupiter rolls on 5-spoke, all-black 12-inch alloy wheels that boost the visual quotient. The top-spec Classic Edition flaunts a retro look with a windshield, chrome-finished mirrors, cushioned backrest and dual-tone seats.
The Jupiter comes with an analogue instrument console with information like tripmeter, headlamp indicator, pass light, econometer, low fuel indicator and fuel gauge. Some other noteworthy features include Automatic Headlight On (AHO), parking brake, retractable bag hooks, and a provisional mobile charging slot. The underseat storage capacity of 17 litres is decent enough for everyday knick-knacks.
Braking and Handling
The suspension setup of the Jupiter comprises of telescopic forks up front and a gas-charged monoshock at the rear. Its 12-inch alloy wheels at both ends are shod in tubeless tyres. The scooter makes do with 130mm drum brakes at both the ends in the base-spec variants, while a 220mm front disc brake is available in the ZX Disc and the Classic variants. TVS' Sync Braking System (SBS) is offered as standard on all drum brake-equipped variants of the Jupiter for effective braking and control under emergency braking situations.
Safety and Features
While the front disc is optional in the Jupiter, the braking system on all of the drum brake-equipped variants gets the company’s Sync Braking System (SBS) for effective braking and added safety. This system is similar to Honda’s Combi Brake System (CBS) and uses a relay lever to automatically activate the front brake even if only the rear brake lever is pulled. The relay effect ensures that the deceleration is evenly distributed, thus offering superior braking control. Furthermore, introduction of the AHO feature ensures that the headlight is always on to enhance the visibility of the vehicle. Other notable features include a parking brake, retractable bag hooks, and an optional mobile charging slot.
