iQube Electric Scooter Expert Review
The TVS iQube, the first electric scooter from TVS, was launched in 2020. Over the years TVS has made some improvements to the e-scooter and rolled out a new variant, the TVS iQube S, as well.
It is in the features that the iQube S differentiates itself from the standard iQube. The iQube S comes with a bigger colour TFT screen with more features but also weighs 1.6kg more than the standard iQube.
Design
The TVS iQube electric scooter has a simple yet modern design. Similar to traditional petrol-powered scooters, its overall outline resembles the TVS Jupiter 110 and appeals to a wider customer range who are looking to buy a simple and reliable electric scooter for their daily city commute.
The electric scooter comes with an apron-mounted LED headlight as well as LED indicators. The LED DRLs are mounted on the handlebar cowl. The floorboard is spacious and makes it easy to put luggage. The scooter has a large and spacious seat combined with a chunky pillion grabrail.
Motor, Battery, Range & Performance
The TVS iQube Electric gets a 3kW motor with a peak power output of 4.4kW. It has two riding modes: Eco and Power. TVS has claimed that the iQube S has a range of 100km in Eco mode but in our testing, we found that the e-scooter can achieve an impressive range of 114.7km in city conditions. This range is pretty good and with the reliable performance on offer, this makes it a practical choice for everyday city rides.
The TVS iQube S comes with a 3.04kWh lithium-ion battery pack. The battery is non-removable and requires a charging port in the parking space. It takes about 4 hours and 30 minutes to charge the scooter from 0-80 using a regular 650W home charger.
One of the interesting things about the iQube is that the riding modes only restrict power output, not the torque. In Eco mode, the iQube electric delivers enough torque to easily ride even over steep inclines. The power delivery is similar to that of a 110cc petrol-powered scooter and the iQube is able to reach a top speed of 86kmph in power mode. On the highway, the TVS iQube S can maintain speeds of 60-65kmph and offers good acceleration until around 70kmph. Overall, the iQube S offers a satisfying performance package for daily commuting needs.
Handling & Ride Quality
When it comes to handling the iQube electric performs decently. The telescopic fork and adjustable rear shock absorbers absorb most bumps and potholes without any issues and give a comfortable ride overall. But the kerb weight of 118.8kg makes it slightly heavier than similarly sized petrol-powered scooters.
The braking setup includes a 220mm disc at the front and a 130mm disc at the rear, with a combined braking system (CBS) for enhanced safety.
Comfort
The TVS iQube doesn’t disappoint in terms of riding comfort. The wide and spacious seat can accommodate riders and pillions of all sizes. The cushioning is adequate and the seat doesn’t feel too soft or too hard. The low seat height makes it an easy ride for even shorter people to ride it comfortably.
Features
The TVS iQube comes with all LED lighting. The base variant of the iQube gets a 5-inch TFT console, whereas the iQube S has a 7-inch colour TFT screen, both with smartphone connectivity via TVS SmartXonnect. The console displays a wide variety of information including navigation, geo-fencing, estimated range indicator, battery charge status, ride statistics, and an overspeeding alert. It's not a touchscreen unit and comes with a small joystick on the left-hand switchgear to navigate the menus, which makes it a bit difficult to use.
The console features Bluetooth connectivity for smartphones and allows the rider to control music, displays incoming call alerts, turn-by-turn navigation (via TVS SmartXonnect App) and also provides document storage.
Aside from this, the iQube gets a Park Assist system with a reverse mode and an underseat USB charger for your mobile phone. The iQube’s built-in eSIM connectivity also enables features such as geofencing, anti-theft alert, and live vehicle location.
Should you buy TVS iQube
The TVS iQube’s performance is reliable and that combined with the practical features, means that the scooter does justify its price tag of Rs 1,28,422 for the standard variant and Rs 1,34,025 for the iQube S (ex-showroom Bengaluru, including FAME II subsidy). There are a few drawbacks, but the overall reliability along with the features it packs makes the iQube a good choice for those opting for their first electric scooter. The e-scooter will feel quite similar to those who are used to regular petrol-powered scooters so there won’t be much difficulty in making the transition to electric.
