The Fazer 250 is a touring-friendly take on the FZ25

After Yamaha launched the FZ25 in India, the company hinted at its future plans of bringing about a touring iteration of the bike, in the form of a 250cc Fazer. Now, the bike has been spotted testing in India without camouflage. This hints that the Fazer 250 is nearing production and launch is expected to happen by this year-end. Going by the pictures, the bike sports a full fairing, while the fuel tank design is identical to the FZ25. The upright riding position is complemented by easy-to-reach handlebars. That coupled with the windscreen could ensure less rider fatigue while doing long highway rides. The rear hasn’t undergone many changes as it is similar to its naked cousin. The bike employs traditional forks up front and monoshock at the rear, a la FZ25.
The Fazer 250 is expected to be powered by the same oil-cooled 249cc single-cylinder engine that does duty in the FZ25. The engine produces 20.9PS of power at 8000rpm and 20Nm of torque 6000rpm. Expect the same, torque-friendly tune in the Fazer as well. Transmission duties are taken care of by a 5-speed unit and the bike sports a 282mm front disc and a 220mm rear disc. It is unclear whether the test mule is equipped with ABS but expect the final product to come with ABS as an option.
Though the frontal portion is not visible in the picture, it is speculated that the bike will sport twin headlights, in line with the Fazer design. However, it is unclear whether the bike would sport twin LED headlamps; but if it does, it would be a segment first. Expect the bike to command a price tag in the range of 1.3 to 1.5 lakh, ex-showroom, and when launched, it will rival the likes of the Bajaj Dominar 400 and Royal Enfield Classic 350. Stay tuned for more updates.
