What updates can we expect on TVS’ only remaining non-BS6 scooter?
The little TVS Scooty Pep Plus finally received its BS6 update a little while ago, meaning that the Scooty Zest 110 is now the only scooter in the manufacturer’s lineup that’s yet to meet the cleaner emission norms. This should be taken care of soon, though, because TVS has teased the official launch of the Scooty Zest 110 BS6. We expect the updated scooter to arrive sometime next month, but what can we expect from it?
Well, obviously, the biggest update will be to the heart of the scooter: the engine. The Scooty Zest is currently powered by a 109.7cc carburetted single-cylinder motor but this engine will have to receive fuel-injection in order to meet the stricter emission norms. Fortunately, the same motor is used in the Jupiter too, where it has already received fuel-injection and is BS6-compliant, so we have a fair idea of what to expect.
The engine currently produces 8PS and 8.4Nm in carburetted form in the Zest, but the Jupiter’s BS6 version only manages 7.48PS. Fortunately, the torque figure has remained the same. It’s quite likely that the updated Scooty Zest BS6 will feature the same engine output as the Jupiter BS6. Aside from the addition of fuel-injection, the motor will also require an additional catalytic converter to clean up tailpipe emissions.
Aside from this, TVS is unlikely to make any drastic changes to the Zest 110, either mechanically or cosmetically. Expect it to carry the same underpinnings: held together by an underbone frame suspended on a telescopic fork and hydraulic monoshock. It’s unlikely that alloy wheels or disc brakes will be offered, since TVS will aim to minimise the price hike as much as possible.
It is possible that the Scooty Zest will get a new colour scheme or two as part of its BS6 update. The scooter is currently offered in five colours under the Matte variant and two colours under the Himalayan Highs Series. Expect prices to go up by Rs 6,500 to 7,000 over the BS4 version which retails at Rs 52,525 for the Himalayan Highs Series and Rs 54,025 for the Matte Series.
