Being super affordable doesn’t mean you miss out on fun

If you’re expecting this list to be filled with economisers, you couldn’t be more wrong. In 2019, we got some decently fun-to-ride motorcycles that do not burn a sizeable hole in your wallet. Here are 5 new bikes under Rs 1 lakh that were launched this year:

Hero XPulse 200 - Rs 97,000 (Carb)

The Impulse successor made its debut this year and if you opted for the carb version of the XPulse 200, you could get it for just under a lakh. It is light and capable of gliding over anything in its path. The suspension is set up perfectly for trail riding. Shame then that the engine offered is still underpowered.

Suzuki Gixxer - Rs 1,00,212

The next gen of Gixxers made their way into the market this year. The sporty genes were retained but the bikes received a new design language as well as a BS6-ready motor. The Gixxer now looks bolder and more macho than its predecessor. The new LED headlight might split opinion when it comes to the styling but the units aren’t the best at lighting up the road at night. Also, on paper, the engine lost out on a bit of grunt. Thankfully, it retains its peppy nature even after the slight loss in power.

Bajaj Pulsar 125 Neon - Rs 66,618

The smallest Pulsar ever made until the start of this year was the 135 LS. Sadly, it wasn’t a runaway success, ultimately, leading to discontinuation in 2018. Then why did Bajaj launch the Pulsar 125 Neon this year? With the inclusion of ABS, the price of the Pulsar 150 was getting a bit too steep for its segment. Bajaj hit the sweet spot when it came to pricing the 125. It offered buyers the Pulsar DNA but without missing out on the practicality of a 125cc bike. No wonder then the 125 is doing great in the sales charts.

Revolt RV400 - Rs 98,999

One of the hottest launches of the year, the Revolt RV400 was India’s first electric motorcycle. This peppy urban motorcycle has tonnes of features like geo-tagging and smartphone connectivity, which one would not expect from a similarly priced petrol-powered motorcycle. It was launched with a unique 37-month subscription plan. However, once Revolt expanded its operations base to Pune, it came out with a definitive price point.

Bajaj Platina 110 H-Gear - Rs 56,371/Rs 53,875 (disc/drum)

There had to be one pure-blooded commuter, right? The Bajaj Platina 110 H-Gear proved to be more than that. Not only did the small-capacity Bajaj turn out to be the most fuel-efficient motorcycle in our mileage tests, the Platina 110 H-Gear is one of the quickest in its class too. The highway gear (Bajaj’s terminology for 5th gear) allows the bike to sustain speeds like 75kmph with ease.
