The Italian marque has tied up with Chinese two-wheeler manufacturer Loncin Motor Company to make small capacity bikes in China

  • MV Agusta’s new small capacity bikes will be classified into four segments.
  • Bikes could include Brutale 500, F2, Tourismo Veloce 500 and Dragster 500.
  • The bikes are expected to be launched here in India as well.

MV Agusta has announced that it has partnered with Chinese two-wheeler manufacturer Loncin Moto Company to build small capacity motorcycles ranging from 350cc to 500cc. Under this partnership, the bikes will be designed by MV Agusta but manufactured in China. In return, Loncin will get access to MV Agusta’s Castiglioni Research Center (CRC) to design 800cc bikes for their premium brand Voge. Expect the company to unveil the small-capacity bikes at the upcoming EICMA motor show in November in concept form while the final production bikes are expected to reach showrooms by late 2021.

MV Agusta is planning to launch the bikes under four names. While the company hasn’t revealed details on what the bikes will be called, we expect them to be smaller iterations of MV Agusta’s current line-up. So you can expect a naked Brutale 350/400, a faired F2 350/500, a tourer called the Turismo Veloce 350/500 and maybe even a Dragster 350/500. It’s still not clear whether the 350cc bikes will be powered by a single-cylinder or a twin-cylinder powerplant. However, we are certain that the MV Agusta 500cc motorcycles will employ a twin-cylinder engine.

With India being a hotbed for low-cost performance bikes and MV Agusta already having a presence here, we can expect the small capacity bikes to come to our shores as well. Here, it will rival the likes of Benelli , CFMoto and the upcoming Husqvarna bikes. While manufacturing the bikes in China should keep costs low, expect the MV Agusta to position these new small-capacity bikes as premium offerings here.
