We find out how the new kid on the block fares against the British roadster on paper

The middle-weight, naked sportbike segment in India has just recently gotten its newest entrant with the launch of the 2025 Honda CB650R. Here is how it compares against the Triumph Trident 660 in terms of price, design, engine, features, and underpinnings:

Price

The 2025 Honda CB650R has been priced at Rs 9.20 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi), while the Triumph Trident 660 is priced at Rs 8.12 lakh (ex-showroom), making it the more affordable option, by a huge margin.

Design

In terms of design, both the Honda CB650R and Triumph Trident have neo-retro looks, minimalistic styling, and round headlamps. Of the two, the Trident is the more compact bike and the CB650R is bigger in size, has a muscular fuel tank, and an overall more sporty design.

Features

When it comes to features, both bikes come with a 5-inch TFT display with Bluetooth connectivity, call/SMS alerts, and turn-by-turn navigation. They also get dual-channel ABS, switchable traction control, and LED lighting all around. The CB650R gets Honda RoadSync app compatibility, while the Trident 660 offers GoPro control and two riding modes: Road and Rain.

Engine

The Honda is powered by a 649cc, liquid-cooled, in-line, four-cylinder engine that produces 95PS at 12,000rpm and 63Nm at 9,500rpm. The Triumph, meanwhile, has a 660cc, liquid-cooled, in-line, three-cylinder engine that makes 81PS at 10,250rpm and 64Nm at 6,250rpm. In terms of transmission, both get a six-speed gearbox with a slip-and-assist clutch. While the Honda makes more power, the Trident offers a more distinctive three-cylinder engine sound.

Underpinnings

Both bikes get a pre-load adjustable monoshock, twin 310mm front discs, and a ground clearance of 150mm. But, the CB650R gets a twin-spar frame, a Showa Separate Function Big Piston inverted fork, and a single 240mm rear disc brake. The bike has a kerb weight of 206kg and a seat height of 810mm. Meanwhile, the Trident is built on a steel perimeter frame, has a Showa 41mm inverted fork, and a 255mm rear disc brake. It has a kerb weight of 189kg and a seat height of 805mm. The trident is the more compact bike of the two and will feel cramped for taller riders.

BikeDekho Says

The Honda CB650R offers more power and a refined in-line, four-cylinder engine. However, the Triumph Trident 660 comes at a more affordable price point, with a unique triple-cylinder engine layout, and more features. If you are looking for a more compact, under the radar in terms of looks, and a nimbler, more lightweight bike, the Trident triumphs (pun intended). But, if you want something more muscular and an in-line four symphony is a must, then the CB650R is the better bet. Ultimately, your choice will depend on budget and personal preference for power delivery.
