The Japanese brand has sent out a ‘block your date’ invite

  • The BS6-compliant CB Shine SP’s specs recently leaked online.
  • Expect Honda to bring out the standard model as well, as both share the same engine.
  • While the CB Shine SP gets a 5-speed transmission, the standard model features a 4-speed gearbox.

Honda has sent out a ‘Block your Date’ invite for a press conference on November 14, and we’ve learnt that it will be a two-wheeler launch. Interestingly, the BS6 CB Shine SP’s specifications were leaked recently on a government portal, reinforcing the possibility of its launch.

The current Shine range comprises the normal variant, CB Shine, and the more premium version, the CB Shine SP. Both bikes share the same engine but have different transmission. While the standard model makes do with a 4-speed transmission, the SP variant comes with a 5-speed unit. Apart from this, there are cosmetic differences as well, with the SP variant getting slightly more premium-looking body panels. That being said, the document reveals that the BS6 Shine SP variant will be offered in three variants. The base variant will have drum brakes on both ends whereas the DLX variant will be offered in two sub-variants: front drum and front disc. We believe Honda could consolidate the entire range into the Shine SP model family.

As per recent trends, the BS6-compliant versions of two-wheelers have been witnessing a slight drop in power figures. Cases in point are the Honda Activa 125 BS6 and the Yamaha YZF-R15 BS6. However, in CB Shine SP’s case, the power figure is actually more than what it is now. This could be due to the inclusion of fuel injection as the dimensions have also witnessed a change, indicating a possible redesign. It also hints at a change in the frame or swingarm geometry.

That said, expect the suspension, including traditional forks and twin rear shock absorbers, to remain the same. As far as the pricing is concerned, the BS6 variants are likely to be dearer by 10 per cent. So expect the base variant to cost around Rs 71,500 while the more premium front disc-equipped model could be priced at Rs 77,500 (ex-showroom).
