Also known as COVID-19, the virus outbreak has affected two-wheeler sales across India

  • The Federation of Automobile Dealers Association has also appealed to the Supreme Court for an extension of the BS6 deadline. 
  • Hero has been unable to clear remaining BS4 stock due to the ongoing epidemic. 
  • The government has mandated March 31st as the last date for selling BS4 vehicles. 

Hero MotoCorp Files Appeal For Extension Of BS6 Deadline Due To Coronavirus

Hero MotoCorp has appealed to the Supreme Court for a three-month extension of the BS6 deadline. The industry has been reeling under the ongoing coronavirus outbreak leading to fewer customers visiting dealerships and as a result, poor sales. On behalf of automobile dealers in India, the Federation of Automobile Dealers Association (FADA) has also appealed to the Supreme Court asking for a two-month extension of the BS6 deadline

Owing to the spread of COVID-19, the government has advised citizens to stay away from public places like malls, offices, and dealerships. Hence, dealerships have been unable to sell their remaining BS4 stock ahead of the April 1st BS6 deadline. In case the deadline is not extended, the dealerships will be stuck with unsold BS4 stock leading to losses worth crores.

The extension, if granted, would give dealerships more time to sell their stocks and hopefully, by then, the coronavirus outbreak would have been contained allowing businesses to return to normalcy. Given the current situation, we hope the Supreme Court offers some relief by extending the deadline.

In other news, Hero has commenced production in its greenfield manufacturing facility in Chittoor, Andhra Pradesh. This plant is Hero MotoCorp’s sixth manufacturing hub in India. It prioritizes environment safety with the adoption of solar power, waste management, and water conservation.
