The scooter’s launch had been delayed quite a bit due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic

  • The Aprilia SXR 160 was unveiled at the Auto Expo in February.
  • It is likely to be launched next month.
  • Unofficial bookings are open at select dealerships.
  • It will be the only maxi-style scooter in the 160cc segment.

After multiple delays due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, Aprilia is all set to launch the SXR 160 maxi-style scooter soon. According to our sources, the Aprilia SXR 160 is likely to be launched in early December and could cost Rs 1.24 lakh (ex-showroom Chennai). The on-road price in Chennai will likely touch the Rs 1.40 lakh mark. Unofficial bookings are open at select dealerships across the country for a token amount of Rs 5,000. That said, the booking amount may vary from dealer to dealer.

Some dealerships may commence the deliveries of the scooter next month itself (provided you book at the earliest) but some other dealerships may have a three-month waiting period. The Aprilia SXR 160 will be the only maxi-style scooter in its segment, with no natural rivals. It is based on the sporty Aprilia SR 160 but packs quite some new features apart from the very European design language.

The Aprilia SXR 160 gets an all-LED lighting system. For practicality, it gets an apron-mounted storage compartment with integrated USB charging port, and a fully digital instrument cluster with optional smartphone connectivity.

The scooter has been designed specifically for the Indian market and it shares its mechanicals with the Aprilia SR 160. The engine is the same as the performance scooter, and could churn out the same output figures (11PS at 7600rpm and 11.6Nm at 6000rpm) as well. Underpinnings include a telescopic front fork, single rear shock absorber, disc brake up front with single-channel ABS and drum at the rear.  We have covered everything you need to know about this upcoming maxi-style scooter here.
