The 2020 model features a new Ice Fluo-Vermillion paint scheme along with mechanical and feature update

  • Yamaha is yet to announce the price of the 2020 MT-15.
  • BS6 update may result in a performance drop, just like the R15 V3.
  • Yamaha will add up to 100 new Blue Square showrooms in India in 2020.

Yamaha has updated the MT-15 to comply with BS6 emissions norms. Though prices haven’t been announced yet, we expect the bike to carry a premium of around Rs 6,000 over the BS4 model which is priced at Rs 1.36 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi). The 2020 update also brings with it a new Ice Fluo-Vermillion paint scheme along with mechanical and feature updates.

To begin with, the Yamaha MT-15 now comes with a white and red paint option just like the one sold in Indonesia. To break it down, it sports white body panels and contrasting red paint for the wheels. Additionally, the bike comes with a side stand engine cut-off switch and a rear radial tyre as part of the standard fitment. Things that remain unchanged include the telescopic front fork, rear monoshock and disc brakes at both ends. Single-channel ABS comes as standard.

Yamaha hasn’t revealed the bike’s specifications. However, we expect alterations to be made to the motor for lower tailpipe emissions. While we do not have any numbers to swear by as of now, we could expect the 155cc liquid-cooled engine to make the same power and torque output as the BS6 R15 V3. For reference, the BS6 R15 V3 makes 18.6PS at 10,000rpm and 14.1Nm at 8500rpm. That’s 0.7PS and 0.6Nm less than the BS4 model. Like the previous version, the BS6 MT-15 gets a 6-speed gearbox with slipper clutch.

Yamaha has also announced its future strategy for India which involves adding up to 100 new Blue Square showrooms across India by the end of 2020. These new dealerships will deal only with 125cc scooters and performance-oriented offerings from the brand. The first Blue Square showroom was launched recently in Chennai.
