There are two model ranges: the VXL and SXL catering to 125cc and 150cc segments

Piaggio India has launched the 2020 facelifted Vespa VXL and SXL range. The 2020 facelifted iteration features a full-LED headlamp with LED DRL, a USB charging port, and an underseat light for added convenience. The scooters also get a 4-step preload-adjustable rear shock absorber. Here’s how they are priced:
The asking price, particularly for the 125cc scooters, is a lot considering the top-of-the-line, feature-packed, sporty-looking Honda Grazia 125 DLX costs only Rs 81,516 (ex-showroom, Pune). It gets a fully digital instrument cluster with an average and real-time mileage indicator, a silent starter, and even an idling stop system. The only USP of the Vespas is their iconic looks.
The primary difference between the VXL and the SXL range is the shape of the headlight and rearview mirrors. The SXL range has square-shaped ones whereas the VXL lineup gets circular units. Apart from these minor visual differences, the two scooters have the same set of mechanicals. There are four models in total: SXL 125, SXL 150, VXL 125 and VXL 150. Here are the powertrain details:
The underpinnings are also more or less similar across both the 125 and 150cc variants, apart from some changes. All the four scooters use a trailing link front suspension and a 200mm front disc with single-channel ABS for the 150cc versions and CBS for the 125cc models. For some reason, the rear drum brake in the Vespa SXL 125 and SXL 150 are 141mm and 143mm respectively. The Vespa VXL 125 and VXL 150 have different sizes, at 140mm and 142mm respectively.
All the four scooters roll on 11-inch front and 10-inch rear wheels wrapped with tyres measuring 110-section front and 120-section at the rear. The four scooters have an accessible seat height of just 770mm, so shorter riders will find it convenient too.

Bookings already commenced online earlier this month. The Vespa 125cc range is priced at quite a premium and there are no other alternatives in its price bracket. However, in the 125cc scooter segment, they go up against the Suzuki Access 125 Special Edition, Honda Grazia 125 DLX, Yamaha Fascino 125, and the Hero Maestro Edge 125 disc brake variant. At present, there are no natural rivals to the Vespa 150 range apart from the sportier-looking Aprilia SR 160.
