BMW will initially be setting up their showrooms in five cities which include Mumbai, Bangalore, Delhi, Hyderabad and Chennai

It’s been quite a while since the news of BMW Motorrad entering India has been buzzing around. The company had showcased the G 310 R for the first time at the 2016 Auto Expo where they also announced their plans to enter Indian market. According to our sources, BMW Motorrad is likely to make its India debut in April 2017 and will be setting up showrooms in five cities – Mumbai, Bangalore, Delhi, Hyderabad and Chennai.

BMW will be setting up new dealerships for the motorcycles separately and won’t just share platform with the car dealerships. The G 310 R is the most anticipated motorcycle at the moment from BMW though it won’t go on sale just yet. The reason for the delay is speculated to be BMW’s lack of satisfaction with the quality of the motorcycle yet. Moreover, the company also aims to reduce prices of the motorcycle to make it a competitive offering in its segment. Once on sale, it will be the most affordable offering from BMW in the two-wheeler market. It will also be the first motorcycle tol be built in India by TVS Motors at its manufacturing facility at Hosur.

As the company will be coming up with exclusive bike-only showrooms, we can also expect them to retail bigger bikes like the F800GS, 1200GS, S1000RR, S1000R, R nineT and K 1600 GTL. All bikes, except the G 310 R, could be made available in India via CBU route and BMW will price all the motorcycles competitively as told to us by our sources. Currently, BMW doesn’t have any plans to assemble motorcycles in India till 2020, post which the company will decide on the localized assembly depending upon the demand of the motorcycles.

Watch out this space for more updates.
