BMW Motorrad has launched the G 310 R BS6 and G 310 GS BS6 in India. The two new motorcycles are significantly more affordable now and even undercut the KTM 390 Duke and 390 Adventure. Here is a closer look at both the motorcycles:

Both the G 310 R and G 310 GS continue to use the same bodywork as before but get updates in the form of a new headlamp, colours and livery.

The BMW G 310 GS gets 3 new colours:  white/grey, new Rallye colours and the commemorative “40 Years” edition. It looks rather enticing in the last two colour schemes.

The naked G 310 R gets a sporty looking metallic Limestone paint scheme with a red painted frame and wheels.

The plastic shroud between the fuel tank and tank extensions has been updated and now covers the empty space below the tank.

The headlamps on both motorcycles now feature LED lighting and have the BMW logo etched on the DRL lens.

Both motorcycles even get new LED turn indicators that amp up its premium quotient.

The G 310 R and G 310 GS continue to use a number plate mounted LED tail lamp.

The motorcycles now get adjustable brake and clutch levers.

The bikes continue using an LCD digital instrument console. Thats disappointing since the KTM 390 Duke and even the TVS Apache RR 310 get colour TFT units. There is no Bluetooth connectivity either.

The new motorcycles however get ride-by-wire throttle which offers precise throttle opening. it even gets throttle assist feature similar to the TVS Apache motorcycles. BMW says this should help solve the low speed stalling problem faced by the BS4 bikes.

Switchgear remains unchanged on both motorcycles. BMW has always impressed with its build quality and this remains unchanged despite the price cut.

Both the G 310 R and G 310 GS now get a BS6 compliant and liquid cooled motor. the 313cc motor develops 34PS at 9,500rpm and 28Nm at 7,500rpm, the same as before. We expect the new motor to be more refined than before.

Besides the updated motor, the new motorcycles now get a slip and assist clutch.

There are no changes to the underpinnings. Both motorcycles get a trellis frame with upside down forks and monoshock. The G 310 GS gets longer travel suspension.

The G 310 R continues to use Michelin Pilot Street radials while the G 310 GS gets dual purpose Metzeler Tourance tyres. Both get disc brakes on both wheels with a front ByBre radial caliper and dual-channel ABS. The adventure tourer gets switchable ABS.

The updated BMW G 310 R BS6 retails for Rs 2.45 lakh while the G 310 GS BS6 costs Rs 2.85 lakh (both ex-showroom India). That's a price cut of Rs 54,000 and Rs 64,000 over its respective BS4 counterparts. The price cut now makes both BMW's quite enticing now.
