The entry-level GS offering rolls of the line in Hosur

  • There are no visual changes apart from the LED headlight and turn indicators, and new colour schemes.
  • Just like the Apache RR 310, the G 310 GS too gets ride-by-wire.
  • Price announcement is set to take place on October 8.

We are just days away from the launch of the BS6 versions of the BMW G 310 GS and G 310 R, as the former has begun rolling out from the assembly line in Hosur. Currently, details regarding the naked are still to be revealed but we have come to know that the G 310 GS now gets LED lighting all around, adjustable brake and clutch levers, a slip-and-assist clutch and ride-by-wire.

BMW has not changed the look of the baby GS in any manner, retaining the same ADV look. The presence of the LED bits were no secret: the bike was spotted numerous times with the new headlight and was also teased in the launch creatives. There are three new colours on offer: white/grey, new Rallye colours and the commemorative “40 Years” edition.

The 313cc single-cylinder liquid-cooled engine continues to pump out 34PS at 9,500rpm and 28Nm at 7,500rpm even in its BS6 guise. BMW has followed in TVS’ footsteps and kitted the G 310 GS with a slip-and-assist clutch, for lighter clutch action, and ride-by-wire. The latter aid was one of the main reasons why the new TVS Apache RR 310 became so smooth and hopefully, the same refinement levels will now appear on the G 310 GS. The G 310 R BS6 will get the same engine updates too. You also find TVS’ GTT tech here but there is no fancy name given to it by the Bavarians.

One small bit of ergonomic convenience that BMW has introduced with the new G 310 GS is adjustable brake and clutch levers. It is a welcome addition to have and we are glad that this feature is becoming all the more common now.

The last remaining piece of the jigsaw puzzle remains its price, which will be revealed on October 8. According to our sources, BMW Motorrad India aims to ditch its extremely high premium stance and settle for just premium. Hence, a massive price cut might just be in store, not only for the GS but also the R, something to the tune of Rs 30,000. Now, wouldn’t that be enticing?
