Starting this weekend at the Kari Motor Speedway, the 2016 Indian National Motorcycle Racing Championship is going to be the platform for more than 250 aspiring racers.

The season of motorcycle racing is going to start in India from this weekend as the 2016 Indian National Motorcycle Racing Championship (INMRC) will be flagged off at the Kari Motor Speedway. Including the one-make championships from three of the country's top manufacturers, TVS Motors, Honda and Suzuki, this event will witness a total of 20 races this year. Motorsport racing is generating more interest than ever among the youth in our country and that is the reason INMRC has received 250 entries this year, its highest ever.

The event organisers and promoters, Madras Motor Sports Club, has also revised the categories this year. It consists of three categories: Stock 165 (previously Group D, Novice), Pro-Stock 165 (previously Group D, Open), and Super Sport Indian 165 (previously Group B); the last being the premium class will witness some of the most experienced riders on heavily modified bikes. As the leading aftermarket tyre brand in India, MRF Tyres is the title sponsor of the event, and all the bikes competing in the 2016 INMRC will be fitted with their rubber.

Friday has been scheduled for briefing and practice sessions, while Saturday will see qualifying sessions. Like the previous year all the one-make championships will comprise of two categories- novice and expert. Some of the top teams from across the country in this event will be Ten10 Racing, Apex Racing, Moto-Rev Yamaha Factory Racing, Sparks Racing and United Torque Racing.

For the first time in history, this year's INMRC will witness two all-ladies races which will be an interesting addition to the event. One of them will be Alisha Abdullah Racing Academy Ladies Race, supported by TVS Racing, while the other one will be Honda Ladies Race. TVS is also replacing the Apache RTR 180 with the newly-launched Apache RTR 200 4V in its one-make series, which will be another new thing in the event. Honda will continue with its CBR 150R and CBR 250R for the novice and the open categories respectively. And Suzuki will be racing the Gixxer 150 SF in both the categories for now.

A stage for aspiring racers to exhibit their skills, the INMRC has given champion riders like K Rajini and Sarath Kumar to the country in the recent years. Now, let's see what this year's championship will bring for us.
