MV Agusta Brutale 800 Expert Review

Overview

July 19, 2017: MV Agusta has launched the 2017 edition of the Brutale 800 for Rs 15.59 lakh (ex-showroom, pan India price). The 2017 edition will get new styling, updated chassis and a reworked motor that makes torque more accessible in the powerband.

The Brutale gets a new headlamp unit with more pronounced LED DRL’s and a larger, more legible instrument console. The new 16.5-litre tank is sharper now with deeper knee recesses that should make it more comfortable for taller riders. The tail section is new and sits on a completely new swingarm. The first thing that will grab your attention when you view it from the side is the gaping hole between the seat and the frame - a design concept hitherto seen only on concept bikes. The tailpiece and number plate holder are now used slung for a more cleaner rear section.

The Brutale 800 will come with the same 796cc in-line three-cylinder motor which now makes 109PS (down by 16PS) at 11,500rpm. Torque though has improved and now 83 Nm which is now made at 7600rpm instead of 8600rpm on its predecessor. The revised motor now makes 25 percent more torque at 7600rpm and 90 percent more torque at 3800rpm than its predecessor. Weight is up due to a larger exhaust for Euro 4 compliance and is now 175kilos dry. Mv Agusta claims a top speed of  237kmph for the Brutale 800.

The Brutale 800 will be shod with 120/70 x R17 and 180/55 x R17 Pirelli twin compound Diablo Rosso II tubeless tyres mounted on 10-spoke alloy wheels. Suspension part includes fully adjustable 43mm upside-down Marzocchi forks up front and semi-adjustable Sachs rear monoshock.

Braking duties are handled by twin 320mm discs clamped with Brembo 4-piston radial calipers at the front and a 220mm disc brake clamped with a two-piston Brembo caliper at the rear. The bike gets ABS with rear lift mitigation. Electronics include an 8-stage traction control and 4 riding modes.

The Brutale 800 will compete with the Kawasaki Z900, Yamaha MT-09, Ducati Monster 821 and the upcoming Triumph Street Triple 765.
